Räknar du snabbt och exakt ochframförallt vet vad du ska räkna på har du goda möjligheter att spela riktigtbra. Oavsett vilken nivå schackspelaren än befinner sig på bör han ellerhon lösa kombinationer så ofta det bara går, helst dagligdags.Att det är så viktigt att analysera sina egna partier beror på att i dem visarsig spelarens styrkor och svagheter. Med partierna som utgångspunkt fårdärmed den egna träningen fokus. Genom analysen kan det bli tydligt attspelaren behöver träna på t.ex. mattbilder, bondeslutspel eller på att fåmed alla pjäserna i angreppet.Grundträningen tillhör det arbete schackspelaren måste göra på egenhand. Det en ledare eller tränare kan göra är att på alla sätt uppmuntraeleven till grundträning samt ge eleven de redskap han eller hon behöverför att den ska bli så effektiv som möjligt.Hur ska man planera kombinationsträningen?Förutom att träna sig i att räkna och hålla hjärnan i trim är målet medkombinationsträning att arbeta upp en kunskapsbas med olika teman attnyttja när man spelar ett parti. Den holländske stormästaren Jan Timmanhar sagt att det inte finns något kombinationstema som han inte har settförut. Med en sådan kunskapsbas har han stor möjlighet att beräkna detaktiska möjligheterna i en ställning, eftersom intuitionen skickar signaler omställningen till hjärnan och säger vilka kombinationsteman som är aktuella.För att träna upp intuitionen på detta sätt rekommenderar jag att man skaträna ett tema i taget. Ta först ut grundtemat och bygg sedan på medvariationer av samma tema. I linje med detta tror jag på att gå från detenkla till det svåra.Jag tycker att de flesta träningar bör innehålla ett moment av att lösakombinationer; antingen som uppvärmning eller som fördjupande tema,och förslagsvis genom att ett nytt tema presenteras vid varje träning.Jag brukar visa grundtemat i sin enklaste och mest grundläggande formpå demonstrationsbrädet. Därefter förklarar jag vad som är dess idé och hurkombinationstemat fungerar, och i nästa steg får eleverna ett a4-pappermed variationer på temat. Ett kombinationspapper kan t.ex. se ut så här:
