Heimatklänge
Sie ist das ursprünglichste aller Instrumente: die Stimme. Die drei
Schweizer Vokalartisten Erika Stucky, Christian Zehnder und Noldi
Alder setzen ihr auf ungewohnte Weise zu. Sie juchzen, jodeln,
rufen, trällern und summen traditionelle und moderne alpenländische
Lieder. Dabei reicht ihr Klangkosmos weit über das hinaus,
was üblicherweise als Gesang bezeichnen wird. Den Körper setzen
sie als Resonanzraum für den spontanen Ausdruck ihrer
Gefühle ein. Stefan Schwietert, bekannt geworden mit seinem
Klezmer-Film A Tickle in the Heart, begleitet die innovativen
Stimmkünstler, spürt ihrem Nonkonformismus nach und führt zu
den Quellen ihrer Inspiration. Himmel und Wolken, Felsen und
Flüsse, Töne ohne Worte, Zwiegespräche mit der Natur, Anklänge
an Blues, Jazz oder Folk: vor dem Hintergrund trutziger Alp- und
moderner Großstadtlandschaften entführt Heimatklänge in wundersame
Vokalwelten.
The most primal of all musical instruments is the human voice.
“I assume that at some point the human being had the urge to
extend the pleasure of speaking,” suggests Erika Stucky, the
Swiss-American vocal and performance artist, whose work,
alongside that of fellow Swiss musicians Christian Zehnder and
Noldi Alder, is featured in this documentary.
Set against the backdrop of impressive alpine landscapes and
urban cities, Schwietert’s film examines the creative processes of
the three musicians whose work stretches the limits of what could
usually be described as singing and extends the traditional alpine
vocal arts such as yodelling into new forms of expression. Footage
of their extraordinary performances blends with personal material
such as home videos and photographs and throughout the film
Schwietert inextricably links their musical explorations to the
sounds and images of their homeland.
“For me as a musician, the question of ‘where do I come from?’ is
of fundamental importance. What is it that I draw on to create?
The further I can go back, the more ingrained this foundation is,
the greater its strength and the more powerful my artistic expression.”

Regie STEFAN SCHWIETERT, geb. 1961, wuchs in der Schweiz auf.
Erste Filme 1979 mit der Videogenossenschaft Basel. 1981 Regieassistenz
bei TV Globo in Brasilien. Danach Studium am California
Art Institute in San Francisco und an der Deutschen Film- und
Fernsehakademie Berlin. 1991 Gründung der Produktionsfirma
»Neapel Film«. Lehrtätigkeit an verschiedenen Filmhochschulen
und Betreuung von Filmprojekten als Dramaturg. Er lebt und arbeitet
in Berlin und Basel.
