What can the poeticmind teach us about nature that wecan apply to our actions and thinking intoday's world? Students will studyWordsworth as well as 19th C GermanRomantic poetry in English translation.Students will also write their own Sonnetsand Haikus on themes of naturerelevant to current environmental concerns.Goals:The goals of the course are to giveparticipants a more poetic and creativeability with English through reading,speaking and producing original text(poems, short essays, etc) .Give students the ability to use Englishto communicate deeper feelings andthoughts that they often must revert toGerman language to express.Help students engage creatively withthe modern concerns regarding the Environmentand human thought and behaviourrelated to the Environment.RequirementsThis course is for students with a minimumEnglish level of B1, though ideallyB2 or higher. While grammar will becovered when necessary, this is not agrammar course. Instead it is a CreativeWriting and Reading course. Studentswill be expected to take an active rolein helping themselves with grammarand vocabulary outside of class.This course is not a religious course onNatural Theology. A Theology of Natureis a terms that suggest that Nature asthe Romantic poets understood it canoffer humanity a truer 'religion' or'moral code' and a better understandingof the deeper questions of life, the universeand everything.MaterialsMaterials will be discussed during thefirst lesson. Most can be obtained onlineand printed out at home.
