Ryuta Imafuku, born 1955 in
Tokyo/JPN, and having traveled and
researched extensively in Latin
America, Imafuku Ryuta (1955) is
an anthropologist and cultural critic
whose unique writings and voice
on contemporary culture, art, history
and politics are widely recognized.
He is known as one of the pioneering
figures in his country to demonstrate
a creolized vision of culture. His
recent activities include the “archipelago
university” project in the Amami/
Ryukyus Islands, and collaborations
on books and exhibitions with
photographers Shomei Tomatsu
and Sebastião Salgado, the poet
Gozo Yoshimasu, and the film-maker
Trinh T. Minh-ha to name a few.
He is the author of The Heterology
of Culture, Technology of the Wild,
Sensory Angels, Elsewhere: Toward
the Corridor of Images, among others.
He teaches Latin American Studies
and Media Studies at Sapporo
University, and is a permanent visiting
professor of Communication and
Semiotics at the Catholic University
of São Paulo, Brazil.
Krystyna Wilkoszewska is professor
of philosophy and aesthetics at
Jagiellonian University in Krakow,
Poland. She is the author of several
books about contemporary art,
postmodernism and cross-cultural
aesthetics. As editor of the series
Aesthetics in the World she published
the book Japanese Aesthetics
Anthology (2003), that deals with
the issues of haiku, No theatre, tea
art, architecture and urbanisation.
Yoko Tawada was born in 1960 in
Tokyo/JPN, since 1982 she lives in
Hamburg. Writings in German and
Japanese language. 1993 literature
prize Akutagawa-Shô, 1996 Adelbertvon-Chamisso
prize, 2003 Tanizaki
prize.
