17. Research in Comparative Histology and Cytology. Not<br />

less than four hours. Special problems, (a) Comparative histology :<br />

the comparative histology of a series of organs, or the anatomy<br />

individual plant, (b), Cytology : the biology and structure of starch,<br />

plastids, and other cell contents ;<br />

also nuclear division and cell for<br />

mation with special reference to tissue development. Intended to<br />

follow course 8, and may form the basis of a major or minor subject<br />

18. Seminary in Embryology, Mycology, etc. Weekly semi<br />

naries will be held in embryology, comparative morphology, mycol<br />

and related subjects. Readings and discussions of current litera<br />

ture ; and problems under investigation will form the basis for the<br />

seminary work. Required of all graduates and open to undergradu<br />

ates who are engaged in research in courses 13, 14 and 15 (one hour).<br />

19. Seminary in Comparative Histology and Taxonomy of<br />

the Angiosperms. seminaries will Weekly be held in these subjects.<br />

Readings and discussions of current literature ; and problems under<br />

investigation, courses 16, 17, will form the basis for the seminary<br />

work. Required of all graduates,<br />

and open to all undergraduates<br />

ENTOMOLOGY AND GENERAL INVERTEBRATE<br />

ZOOLOGY.<br />

The scope of the instruction in this department is indicated by the<br />

title of the department ; elementary courses are given in the general<br />

subject of invertebrate zoology, and special courses, both elementary<br />

and advanced in entomology. An opportunity is offered the student<br />

to lay a broad foundation for zoological studies by lectures covering in<br />

a general way the field of invertebrate zoology, and by a study in the<br />

laboratory of a wide series of typical forms, illustrating the more im<br />

portant groups of Invertebrates. These two courses taken*in connec<br />

tion with similar courses offered by the Department of Physiology
