PRIZES.<br />

The Fuertes Medals, founded by Professor E. A. Fuertes and<br />

consisting of two gold medals, will be awarded under the following<br />

conditions :<br />

One of these medals will be awarded annually by the <strong>University</strong><br />

Faculty to that student of the College of Civil Engineering who may be<br />

found, at the time of graduation, to have"maintained_the highest degree<br />

of scholarship in the subjects of his course ; and the other medal will be<br />

awarded annually by the <strong>University</strong> Faculty to that graduate of the<br />

College of Civil Engineering who may write a meritoriouspaper upon<br />

some engineering subject tending to advance the scientific or practi<br />

cal interests of the profession of the civil engineer; provided, how<br />

ever, that neither medal shall be awarded unless it appear to the Uni<br />

versity Faculty that there is a candidate of sufficient merit to entitle<br />

him to such distinction. Candidates will be nominated to the Univer<br />

sity Faculty by the College of Civil Engineering annually.<br />

When no medal is awarded, the money thus left unexpended shall<br />

be added to the principal of the Fuertes fund ; or it may, at the dis<br />

cretion of the Board of Truttees, be given to aid needy and meritori<br />

ous students of any course.
