DEPARTMENTS AND FACULTIES.<br />

i. The <strong>University</strong>. <strong>Cornell</strong> comprehends <strong>University</strong> the follow<br />

ing departments, to-wit : the Graduate Department, the Academic<br />

Department (or Department of Arts and Sciences), the College of<br />

Law, the College of Civil Engineering, the Sibley College of<br />

Mechanical|Engineering<br />

and Mechanic Arts, the College of Architecture, the<br />

College of Agriculture and the Medical College. The New York State<br />

Veterinary College and the New York State College of Forestry are<br />

administered by <strong>Cornell</strong> <strong>University</strong>, and their work is organically con<br />

nected with that of the <strong>University</strong>.<br />

2. The Faculties. The Faculties of <strong>Cornell</strong> <strong>University</strong> are : (a)<br />

A General Faculty, designated the <strong>University</strong> Faculty; and (b)<br />

Special Faculties as follows : the Faculties of Arts and Sciences, the<br />

Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Civil Engineering, the of Faculty Me<br />

chanical Engineering, the Faculty of Architecture, the Faculty of Ag<br />

riculture, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, the Faculty of Forestry<br />

and the Medical Faculty.<br />

3. The <strong>University</strong> Faculty. The <strong>University</strong> Faculty consists of<br />

the President, who is ex officio the presiding officer, and the Professors<br />

and Assistant Professors of the <strong>University</strong>, including the Professors<br />

and Assistant Professors of the New York State Veterinary College<br />

and the New York State College of Forestry. It is the function of<br />

the <strong>University</strong> Faculty to consider questions which concern more than<br />

one Special Faculty, and questions of <strong>University</strong> policy. The Gradu<br />

ate Department is under the immediate charge of the <strong>University</strong><br />

Faculty.<br />

4. The Special Faculties. Each Special Faculty is composed of<br />

the President, who is ex officio the presiding officer, and all Professors,<br />

Assistant Professors, and Instructors who teach in the department or<br />

departments under the charge of that Faculty ; but Instructors shall<br />

not have the right to vote. Subject to the right of revision by the<br />

<strong>University</strong> Faculty, on all matters effecting general <strong>University</strong> policy,<br />

it is the duty of each Special Faculty to determine the entrance re<br />

quirements for its own students ; to prescribe and define courses of<br />

study for them ; to determine the requirements for such degrees as are<br />

offered to students under its jurisdiction ; to enact and enforce rules<br />

for the guidance and government of its students ; and to recommend<br />

to the Trustees such candidates for degrees as may have completed the<br />

requirements.
