Juniors and seniors in good standing in the Academic Department<br />

are allowed, with the permission of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences,<br />

and with the consent of the Faculty concerned in each case, to elect<br />

studies in other Colleges which shall count towards graduation in the<br />

Academic Department, but the sum total of hours elected cannot ex<br />

ceed the number required for one year's work in such Colleges, nor<br />

exceed nine hours per week in any term.<br />

DEPARTMENTS OF INSTRUCTION.<br />

SEMITIC LANGUAGES AND LITERATURES.<br />

The work in this department falls under three heads.<br />

The Languages. An elementary course in Hebrew will be given<br />

each year. The advanced work in this language is so arranged as to<br />

cover in three years the writers of leading the Old Testament and<br />

some parts of the Mishnaic and Talmudic literature. General stu<br />

dents with linguistic interests, and those preparing to teach, are ad<br />

vised to begin their of study the Semitic languages with the Arabic,<br />

which will also be offered each year. Aramaic and Egyptian will<br />

alternate with Assyrian and Ethiopic In the Semitic Seminary, one<br />

term each year will be given to epigraphical studies.<br />

The Literatures. A course of lectures on the most important<br />

productions of the Semites will be given annually. For this<br />
