8a. Histology of the Nervous System. Spring term. Three<br />

hours. Laboratory work, with a weekly lecture or recitation. T., 9.<br />

Dr. Stroud.<br />

Course 8a must be preceded by courses 1,2. and 3, and by courses 1<br />

and 2 in Microscopy and Histology.<br />

8b. Advanced Histology of the Nervous System, with special<br />

reference to the fiber tracts and the functions of parts. Laboratory<br />

work with occasional lectures and recitations. Hours to be arranged.<br />

Dr. Stroud.<br />

Course 8b must be preceded or accompanied by course 8a.<br />

9. Advanced Study, Research and Thesis Work. Daily<br />

throughout the year. Professor Wilder and Dr. Stroud.<br />

10. Department Conference. Fortnightly throughout the year,<br />

at an hour to be arranged, alternating with the Seminary in Micro<br />

scopy, Histology and Embryology.<br />

All the courses in this department, and particularly the more ad<br />

vanced, are more satisfactorily pursued if the student has the follow<br />

ing<br />

preparation :<br />

1. French and German as required for entrance to the courses in<br />

Architecture and Engineering.<br />

2. Freehand Drawing ; Drawing Course 1 of the Sibley College of<br />

Mechanie Arts.<br />

3. Photography ; course 9 in Physics.<br />

4. Microscopy and Histology ; courses 1 and 2.<br />

ANATOMICAL METHODS AND HUMAN ANATOMY.<br />

The instruction in anatomy is given in six courses, of which two<br />

pertain to Comparative Veterinary Anatomy ; the other four courses<br />

are outlined below. The instruction is by lecture and laboratory<br />

work, the latter being by far the more important.<br />

In courses 1 and 2, the student learns some anatomy, but what is<br />

of more importance to the beginner, the eyes become somewhat trained<br />

to distinguish quickly, and the hands to dissect neatly and accurately<br />

the various structures under consideration, so that in course 3 the<br />

study of human anatomy may be taken with up more advantage than<br />

otherwise would be possible.<br />

The department of anatomy occupies the whole of the east wing of<br />

the Veterinary College a structure 90 feet by 40, and one story in<br />

height. The floors are of impermeable cement ; the walls are lined<br />

by enameled white brick, and the ceilings are covered with sheet steel.<br />

The main laboratory is 54 feet by 40 and 22 feet in height. It is well
