ADMISSION AND CLASSIFICATION.<br />

2. In Advanced French or Advanced German (French pre<br />

ferred)<br />

as given on pages 38 and 39.<br />

Note : The applicant must present a Regents'<br />

diploma (see page 50),<br />

or a certificate of graduation from an approved school (see page 51).<br />

Otherwise he must, in addition to the requirements mentioned in 1 and<br />

2, pass examinations or present acceptable certificates representative of<br />

an amount of work equivalent to three years time in a single subject<br />

in preparatory schools of approved standing.*<br />

For the above work a free choice among the various subjects not<br />

otherwise counted, that are taught in the preparatory schools of<br />

approved standing, will usually be accepted ; while at the same time,<br />

combinations of the subjects are recommended as following the most<br />

suitable for entrance to the course in the College of Architecture :<br />

Physics, Chemistry, Geology, Free-Hand Drawing, and the alternative<br />

Modern Language.<br />

TO THE COURSE LEADING TO THE DEGREE OF CIVIL ENGINEER.<br />

1. In Solid Geometry, Advanced Algebra, and in Plane and<br />

Spherical Trigonometry, as much as is contained in the standard<br />

American and English text-books. See page 46.<br />

2. In Advanced French or Advanced German,<br />

pages 38 and 39.<br />

as given on<br />

NOTE : The applicant must present a Regents'<br />

diploma (see page 50) ;<br />

or a certificate of graduation from an approved school (see page 51 ) ; or,<br />

in addition to the requirements mentioned above in 1 and 2, he must<br />

pass examinations, or present acceptable certificates, showing that he<br />

has done an amount of work equivalent to a course of three<br />

years'<br />

duration in a single subject in preparatory schools of approved stand<br />

ing.* For the above amount of equivalent work, a free choice among<br />

the various subjects taught in the preparatory schools of approved<br />

standing, and not otherwise counted, will usually be accepted ; but<br />

combinations of the following subjects if equivalent to three<br />

years'<br />

time under instruction, are recommended as most suitable for entrance<br />

to the courses in the College of Civil Engineering :<br />

(a) History,<br />

(b)<br />

(c)<br />

or additional English language and literature.<br />

Additional modern languages or literatures.<br />

Freehand or linear drawing.<br />

(d) Chemistry, physics, botany, zoology, descriptive astronomy, or<br />

additional physiology.<br />

(e)<br />

Latin or Greek.<br />

* This additional requirement is equivalent to 12 counts on tbe Regents' scale in<br />

the State of New York.
