17. Advanced Work in Mineralogy and Petrography.<br />

Adapted to the needs of the individual student. Includes preparation<br />

of theses. The work may be directed in the line of Crystallographic<br />

Measurements, Crystal Structure, Mineral Synthesis, Microchemical<br />

Methods, or Petrographic Research. Assistant Professor Gill.<br />

Elective Courses.<br />

21. General Geology. Lectures, accompanied by field and labora<br />

tory work. Three hours. In the lectures especial attention is given<br />

to dynamic geology, but the general subject is also treated in its rela<br />

tion to dynamic and physiographic geology. Lectures, T., Th., 9,<br />

Geological Lecture Room. Laboratory and field work, M., 2-4:30, or<br />

T., 2-4:30 (if another section is needed, hours will be arranged).<br />

The laboratory and field work are planned to supplement and illus<br />

trate the lectures. In the fall and spring terms short excursions are<br />

made to points of interest near by, and one or two excursions are made<br />

to more distant points. Open to all elective students. Professor Tarr<br />

and Dr. RiES.<br />

22. Physical Geography, or Physiography. Lectures accom<br />

panied by field and laboratory work. Three hours. Lectures M.,<br />

W., 9, Geological Lecture Room. Laboratory and field work, Th.,<br />

2-4:30 (if another section is necessary, hours will be arranged).<br />

Open to students who have previously taken a course in general<br />

geology or who are taking course 21. Professor Tarr.<br />

The lectures discuss the features of the earth from the standpoint of<br />

their origin, history and influence upon life. Illustrated by lantern<br />

slides in the lectures, by the study of maps, models, and photographs<br />

in the laboratory, and by excursions, in fall and spring. In the fall<br />

and winter terms, the larger earth features are considered, followed
