Some of these courses are fuller than necessary for students in for<br />

estry, and may possibly be shortened, leaving more room for Elec<br />

1. Synoptical Course in Forestry. Economic Nature and<br />

Political Aspects. Designed especially for students of Political<br />

to acquaint the student in a brief manner with the several<br />

subjects comprising the field of forestry. Lectures only. Two hours.<br />

2. One-year Course in Forestry, with special reference to Sil<br />

viculture. Designed especially for Agriculturists and others who<br />

desire a brief study of the technicalities of woodcraft and silviculture.<br />

Lectures and demonstrations. Three hours. Fall and winter.<br />

Assistant Professor Gifford.<br />

3. Silviculture. Principles of arboriculture, application of den<br />

drology to crop production, methods of reproduction, improvement of<br />

the crop, practice nursery and forest planting. Lectures, recitations<br />

and field demonstrations. Four hours. Fall and winter. Professor<br />

Fernow.<br />

4. Forest Protection. Methods of guarding against trespass, loss<br />

from fires, insects and diseases ; measures to prevent erosion, washing<br />

and deterioration of soils. Lectures and recitations. Three hours.<br />
