elect continuously not less than nine hours of studies in history and<br />

political science, will, upon application on or before June i, receive<br />

the degree of Bachelor of Philosophy in History and Political Science.<br />

Students in the Course in Science who in their sophomore year<br />

elect invertebrate and vertebrate Zoology, and at least two terms of<br />

freehand drawing, and who in the last two years elect continuously<br />

not less than nine hours in natural history, and pass an examination<br />

before the beginning<br />

books of Caesar's Commentaries,<br />

of the senior year in Latin equivalent to four<br />

and in Greek sufficient to show<br />

ability to recognize and analyze scientific technical terms, will, upon<br />

application on or before June i, receive the degree of Bachelor of<br />

Science in Natural History.<br />

General Conditions for Graduation. For graduation, 180 hours<br />

of instruction, besides military drill and physical training during the<br />

freshman and sophomore years, are to be completed. In the case of<br />

students relieved from military drill and physical training, an equiva<br />

lent in hours is added to the 180 hours. For those entering in<br />

and after 1897 the work of the entire course is elective, except as re<br />

gards military drill, and gymnasium, and is subject only to the limi<br />

tations prescribed by each department of instruction. Students are,<br />

however, advised to lay out definite and systematic lines of study.<br />

The following list comprises the courses of instruction open to<br />

election by freshmen without special permission. Freshmen may not<br />

register in any other course until the written consent of the professor<br />

in charge of the subject be presented to the Registrar.<br />

Greek. Courses 1, ia, and A.<br />

Latin. Courses 1 and 15.<br />

Germanic Languages. Course 1, and under certain restrictions,<br />

courses 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6.<br />

Romance Languages. Course 1, and under certain restrictions,<br />

courses 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9, 11, 12, 14, 16, and 17.<br />

English. Courses 1, 3, 10, 30, and 31.<br />

History. Courses 4, 8, 21, 22.<br />

Music. Course 1.<br />

Bibliography. Course 1.<br />

Mathematics. Courses 6, 8,<br />

and 9.<br />

Physics. Courses 2a and 2b if advanced mathematics be offered at<br />

entrance.
