D. Economic Geology.<br />

Required Courses.<br />

30. Economic Geology for Civil Engineers. Spring. Three<br />

hours. Lectures M., W., 10, and one laboratory period, either M.<br />

W., orTh., 2-4, Geological Lecture Room. Dr. RiES.<br />

31. Clay Products and Building Stones. Required for Archi<br />

tects. Winter. Two hours. Lectures M., W., 11, Geological Lecture<br />

Room. Dr. RiES.<br />

32. Origin and Nature of Soils. Required for students in<br />

Forestry. Winter. Two hours. Lectures T., Th., 10, Geological<br />

Lecture Room. Dr. RiES.<br />

Elective Courses.<br />

33. General Economic Geology. Two hours throughout the<br />

year. Lectures and laboratory work. Time to be arranged. A com<br />

prehensive course upon the origin and nature of the metallic and non-<br />

metallic products with especial reference to those of the United States.<br />

The courses in General and Geology (21) Mineralogy (11), or their<br />

equivalents, are prerequisite. Geological Lecture Room. Dr. RiES.<br />

Intended for students in geology, for those studying mining engi<br />

and neering for students in inorganic chemistry.<br />

34. Clay Investigation. Primarily for graduates. Laboratory<br />

work, field work and reading. In the are laboratory taught the differ<br />

ent methods of testing clays for the purpose of determining their uses.<br />

35. Advanced Economic Geology. Primarily for graduates.<br />

This course, including laboratory work, field work and reading, will<br />

vary with the needs of the individual student.<br />

MILITARY SCIENCE AND TACTICS.<br />

Pursuant to the act of Congress creating the land grant on which<br />

the <strong>Cornell</strong> <strong>University</strong> is founded,<br />

and the act of the legislature of<br />

the State of New York assigning the land grant, instruction is pro<br />

vided in Military Science and Tactics.<br />

Military Drill is required of all male freshmen and sophomores ex<br />

cept aliens, laboring students, special students and those physically<br />

unfitted therefor. A student deficient in a term of Military Drill is<br />

not permitted to substitute anything else for that work, or to be ex<br />

cused from any subsequent term until the deficiency is removed. In<br />

the cases of students not taking Drill and Gymnasium, an equivalent<br />

in hours will be added to the 180 hours required for graduation. Stu-
