GRADUA TE DEPAR TMENT 65<br />

intends to carry on, if appointed ; and if any literary or scientific<br />

work has been produced which could be put in evidence, a copy<br />

should accompany the application. Those candidates who are gradu<br />

ates of other colleges or universities should submit recommendations<br />

from the instructors best acquainted with their ability and attainments<br />

in the special subjects which they desire to pursue. It should be<br />

borne in mind by such applicants that information cannot be too<br />

exact or too full in the case of students not personally known to the<br />

appointing body.<br />

The Statute in regard to Fellowships and Graduate Scholarships is<br />

as follows :<br />

There have been established at this <strong>University</strong> the following Fel<br />

lowships and Graduate Scholarships :<br />

(a). Eight <strong>University</strong> Fellowships, denominated respectively, the<br />

<strong>Cornell</strong> Fellowship ; the McGraw Fellowship ; the Sage Fellowship ;<br />

the Schuyler Fellowship ; the Sibley Fellowship ; the Goldwin Smith<br />

Fellowship ; the President White Fellowship ;<br />

Fellowship.<br />

(b). Five <strong>University</strong> Fellowships.<br />

and the Erastus Brooks<br />

The above thirteen <strong>University</strong> Fellowships have been assigned to<br />

the following Departments or groups of Departments : Mathematics,<br />

Chemistry, Physics, Civil Engineering, Neurology and Physiology<br />

and Vertebrate Zoology (including Anatomical Methods and Human<br />

Anatomy and Microscopy, Histology and with Embryology) Inverte<br />

brate Zoology and Entomology, Botany and Geology, Architecture,<br />

Agriculture and Horticulture and Veterinary Science, English, Ger<br />

manic Languages, Romance Languages, one each ;<br />

Electrical Engineering, two.<br />

Mechanical and<br />

(c). Two President White Fellowships, denominated: first, the<br />

President White Fellowship of Modern History ; second,<br />

dent White of Political and Social Science.<br />

(d). Three Susan Linn Sage Fellowships in Philosophy.<br />

(e). Two Fellowships in Political Economy.<br />

(f). Two Fellowships in Greek and Latin.<br />

(g). One Fellowship in American History.<br />

The President White Fellowships in History<br />

Social Science have an annual value of $600 each ; the others have an<br />

annual value of $500 each.<br />

(h). Six Graduate Scholarships in the Susan Linn Sage School of<br />

Philosophy,<br />

each of the annual value of $300.<br />

(i). Ten Graduate Scholarships, each of the annual value of $300,<br />

have been assigned to the Departments or groups of Departfollowing
