famous was, of course, BMW, which took the initial Isetta design,
developed it with their typical efficiency and skill, and gave it the blessing
of their large-scale marketing efforts. BMW made the Isetta “cheap
chic,” which was popular among the fashion set as it was among those
seeking economy.
The European-spec “sliding window” model offered here is fresh “off the
racks” of the Bruce Weiner Microcar Museum, and while in somewhat
rough condition and requiring restoration, it is also a fabulous example
of a “preservation” microcar. It is original and unrestored in all respects,
still wearing the paintwork, chrome
trim, and interior with which it left
the Bayerische Motoren Werke over
half a century ago. This is likely
one of the most complete, intact,
original Isettas, and examination
of it provides a valuable glimpse
