results are not comparable with other L. phalangium fields, from other areas, in term of<br />
occurrence, density and extension, nevertheless the associated demersal species seem<br />
to be very similar. These preliminary results provide further evidence on the<br />
importance of this facies in structuring demersal communities and in enhancing the<br />
habitat heterogeneity (Gili and Coma, 1998; Colloca et al., 2004). Moreover, the<br />
knowledge about an essential fish habitat, as L. phalangium field, should be considered<br />
priority in fisheries management of the Southern Tyrrhenian Sea.<br />
