does occur. Figure 5.6 shows observed locati<strong>on</strong>s of tornadoes with respect to<br />

the orientati<strong>on</strong> of l<str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g>falling storms. Occasi<strong>on</strong>ally, l<str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g>falling storms produce<br />

tornado swarms, such as the tornadoes that were observed to be associated<br />

with the l<str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g>fall of Hurricane Beulah (1969) <strong>on</strong> the Texas coast, as illustrated<br />

in Figure 5.7. <str<strong>on</strong>g>Hurricanes</str<strong>on</strong>g> Carla (1961) <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> Celia (1970), in c<strong>on</strong>trast, produced<br />

no observed tornadoes.<br />

5.2.6 Inl<str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> impacts<br />

Inl<str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g>, away from the coast, the largest threat to life <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> property occurs as a<br />

result of flash flooding <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> large-scale riverine flooding from excessive rainfall.<br />
