Fa<strong>in</strong>t vvitli heat anil thirst He asks<br />

Water from that ancient well,<br />

And His uncompla<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g voice<br />

Hidden sorrows may not tell;<br />

But He asks as charity<br />

What to all men should be free.<br />

But <strong>the</strong> proud Samaritan<br />

Answered with <strong>in</strong>dignant scorn:<br />

"Dost thou ask a dr<strong>in</strong>k <strong>of</strong> me?<br />

Thou an enemy wast born;<br />

And a Jew can never claim<br />

Favor <strong>of</strong> Samaritan!"<br />

He who now <strong>in</strong> Heaven doth dwell<br />

Lowly sat at Jacob's well!"<br />

While <strong>our</strong> fa<strong>the</strong>r wrote much for <strong>our</strong> religious j<strong>our</strong>nals,<br />
