Hope to Action is a good example of what can be done by women in developed countries at the household level. This organization targets consumption patterns in the USA, taking into account women’s role in consumer decisions. Their strategy consists of conducting “EcoSalons” which gather together women in their neighbourhoods and communities and provide practical advice on how to mitigate climate change through sustainable consumption (www.hopetoaction.org). 164 Therefore campaigns and education efforts directed at changing consumer patterns and incorporating principles of sustainable consumption, as a mitigation strategy to climate change, must consider women as one of the most important target groups.
