3. Explain that the assignment focuses on different aspects of<br />

the importance <strong>and</strong> intersection between gender <strong>and</strong><br />

mitigation issues. Explain that the knowledge gained in<br />

the previous modules should be applied to this module. Give<br />

a short introduction pointing out the aims of the assignment.<br />

Explain that each group will discuss a different area, <strong>and</strong> they<br />

will be responsible for presenting the results of their discussions<br />

to the other groups in the plenary at the end.<br />

4. Appoint a leader in each group. Ask the participants to read<br />

their designated section of the module together with the<br />

case studies, <strong>and</strong> then to discuss them <strong>and</strong> prepare a<br />

“defence” based on the following questions:<br />

• What is distinctive about the role of women in this<br />

context?<br />

• What are the potential benefits of mainstreaming<br />

gender considerations?<br />

• What are the barriers?<br />

• What would be lost if gender considerations were not<br />

included?<br />

5. Ask the groups to write on a flip chart the results of their<br />

discussions on each question. Assist the leaders of each group<br />

in facilitating their discussions <strong>and</strong> in highlighting the key<br />

issues.<br />

6. Ask each group to present their “defence”. All group<br />

members can participate in this presentation. If possible,<br />

provide additional information on the key issues <strong>and</strong> possible<br />

ways of dealing with them.<br />

7. Allow the participants of the other groups to put forward<br />

questions <strong>and</strong> suggestions.
