an invited panel member for the US Marine Mammal Commission Workshop on Beaked<br />

Whales (2004) and was a recipient of the US Department of the <strong>Navy</strong> Meritorious<br />

Civilian Service Award in the field of multistatic sonar (1996). She received a Masters<br />

of Arts degree in Physical Oceanography from the Virginia Institute of Marine Science,<br />

College of William and Mary, Williamsburg, Virginia. She currently works at SPAWAR<br />

Systems Center Pacific, San Diego, California. She has co-authored numerous papers<br />

on multistatic active sonar research and cetacean distribution and habitat.<br />

Mr Petar Djokovic<br />

Petar Djokovic joined the Department of Defence in 2007 having spent a number of<br />

years in ministerial, cabinet and community liaison positions in the <strong>Australian</strong> Capital<br />

Territory Government. He spent some time working in the Air Power Development<br />

Centre where he wrote historical articles on subjects such as the <strong>Royal</strong> <strong>Australian</strong> Air<br />

Force’s (RAAF) role in the Indonesian Confrontation, the World War II era Northern<br />

Territory Special Reconnaissance Unit and RAAF peacekeepers. He joined the SPC-A<br />

as a Historical Officer in 2007 with a particular interest in naval aviation. He holds a<br />

Bachelor of Commerce (banking and finance) degree from the University of Canberra<br />

and has a lifelong interest in history and international relations.<br />

Mr Andrew Forbes<br />

Andrew Forbes is the Deputy Director (Research) at the SPC-A. He is a visiting senior<br />

fellow at the <strong>Australian</strong> National Centre for Ocean Resources and Security, University<br />

of Wollongong; a research fellow at the Centre for Foreign Policy Studies at Dalhousie<br />

University; an associate of the Corbett Centre for Maritime Policy, Defence Academy<br />

of the United Kingdom; and a member of the International Institute for Strategic<br />

Studies, London.<br />

Squadron Leader Lewis Frederickson<br />

Lewis Frederickson is a serving officer in the RAAF. He holds undergraduate and<br />

post graduate degrees from Central Queensland University, and is a graduate of the<br />

<strong>Australian</strong> Command and Staff Course. He has a keen interest in the study of <strong>Australian</strong><br />

history and commenced research into a PhD in this discipline through the University<br />

of New South Wales in 2010.<br />

Dr Gregory P Gilbert<br />

Gregory Gilbert previously worked as a naval design engineer with the Department of<br />

Defence (<strong>Navy</strong>) between 1985 and 1996 and was a Defence contractor until 2002. He<br />

has broad research interests including military strategy and history, the archaeology<br />

and anthropology of warfare, Egyptology, and international relations in the Middle East.
