The tele<strong>com</strong>munications services market slowed considerably<br />

in <strong>2009</strong>, in a depressed economic environment, with revenue<br />

growth of 0.3%, <strong>com</strong>pared with 8.2% in 2008.<br />

The fi xed-line services market continued to decline in <strong>2009</strong><br />

(-10.5% for revenues and -7.8% for the number of subscribers)<br />

in favor of mobile telephony and Voice over IP (123,000 new<br />

lines according to Idate). New customers go primarily for mobile<br />

offers due to their attractiveness, without necessarily also<br />

having a fi xed or VoIP line.<br />

The fi xed Internet services market grew by 7.1% in <strong>2009</strong> in<br />

terms of revenues, and by 16.8% in terms of the number of<br />

customers (i.e. 783,000 customers at end <strong>2009</strong>), <strong>com</strong>pared<br />

with +18.5% and +24.5% respectively in 2008. This growth was<br />

attributable both to Slovakia’s low Internet penetration rate of<br />

14.3% and its economic development.<br />

Slovakia is an increasingly dynamic and <strong>com</strong>petitive market,<br />

with a variety of offers available to consumers and businesses,<br />

including ADSL, fi ber (FTTH) and mobile broadband Internet .<br />
