Herba Chelidonii<br />

Definition<br />

Herba Chelidonii consists of the dried, <strong>who</strong>le or cut aerial parts of Chelidonium<br />

majus L. (Papaveraceae), gathered during the flowering period (1–5).<br />

Synonyms<br />

Chelidonium vulgare Renault, nom. illeg.: C. haematodes Moench,<br />

C. ruderale Salisb., C. umbelliferum Stokes (6).<br />

Geographical distribution<br />

Indigenous to all of Europe and to the temperate and subarctic regions of<br />

Asia, and northern Africa. Found widely in Caucasia and the European<br />

part of the Newly Independent States, rare in Siberia and the Far East<br />

(7–9, 14, 16, 24–28).<br />

Description<br />

A herbaceous biennial or perennial, 30–100(120) cm high. Rhizome: vertical,<br />

thick, fleshy, branched <strong>int</strong>o numerous roots, reddish-brown outside, yellow<br />
