Student Internships. HEP provides an excellent opportunity to<br />

develop skills in: conducting group presentations, changing<br />

health-related policies and influencing media. Transcript notation<br />

and/or academic credit are available. The internship requires a<br />

three quarter commitment. Check our Web site in winter quarter<br />

regarding internship opportunities.<br />

The House<br />

The House is a professionally supervised peer counseling program<br />

of CAPS. Students receive confidential support, information and<br />

referrals regarding personal or social problems. Well-trained student<br />

volunteers assist fellow students through individual peer<br />

counseling and a wide variety of workshops held in an informal<br />

setting. Stress reduction and wellness resources include a meditation<br />

room, a video and listening room with relaxation and educational<br />

compact discs and an automatic massage chair. No<br />

appointment is necessary and services are offered on a drop-in or<br />

telephone basis Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. during<br />

fall, winter and spring quarters.<br />

Volunteers for peer counselor positions at the House are selected<br />

winter quarter. Students are trained in basic counseling skills and<br />

can receive units for training. Transcript notation is also available<br />

for quarters working as a peer counselor volunteer.<br />

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES<br />

By participating in extracurricular activities on the <strong>UC</strong> <strong>Davis</strong> campus,<br />

you can benefit from numerous opportunities for educational,<br />

personal, cultural and social enrichment. In general, <strong>UC</strong> <strong>Davis</strong> students<br />

who are registered and enrolled may participate in extracurricular<br />

activities sponsored by the campus. Some extracurricular<br />

activities have additional eligibility criteria, so you are encouraged<br />

to inquire about the particular eligibility requirements of the<br />

groups and programs that interest you.<br />

The <strong>UC</strong> <strong>Davis</strong> Department of Campus Recreation provides many<br />

healthy activities and programs including social, physical, creative,<br />

intellectual and cultural activities to offset the stresses associated<br />

with a rigorous academic environment. These programs complement<br />

the academic mission of the university and enhance the<br />

quality of life for the campus.<br />

Events & Conferencing<br />

The ARC & The Pavilion<br />

The Department of Campus Recreation staff manages all conference<br />

and event needs related to the meeting rooms and ballroom<br />

located in the Activities and Recreation Center. The Pavilion, formerly<br />

called Recreation Hall, is a 150,000 square-foot reservable<br />

arena, as well as the home court for <strong>UC</strong> <strong>Davis</strong> NCAA Basketball &<br />

Volleyball. From concerts to career fairs, it's the ideal space to host<br />

The mission of the Intramural Sports and Sport Club office is to<br />

provide the students, faculty and staff of <strong>UC</strong> <strong>Davis</strong> the opportunity<br />

to participate in a variety of competitive and recreational sports on<br />

campus.<br />

The <strong>UC</strong> <strong>Davis</strong> Sport Club program promotes student participation<br />

in a wide variety of athletic activities, provides opportunity for student<br />

competition at various levels of play and fosters the development<br />

of student leadership. Sport Clubs are comprised of student,<br />

faculty and staff of the University.<br />

Outdoor Adventures<br />

Outdoor Adventures will help you enjoy time with friends in California's<br />

scenic natural areas, develop your outdoor skills and plan<br />

your outdoor excursion. You can rent professional-quality equipment<br />

and arrange for custom-designed trips and group rates. An<br />

up-to-date library contains topographic maps, trail guides and<br />

other materials. Classes, excursions and clinics in backpacking,<br />

rock-climbing, whitewater rafting, sea kayaking, mountaineering,<br />

cross-country skiing and other sports are offered. Outdoor Adventurers<br />

also offers training classes in wilderness first aid, EMT,<br />

AED, CPR and swift water rescue.<br />

The Equestrian Center is open year round, offering trail rides,<br />

practice sessions and instruction in both English and Western riding.<br />

Group and private lessons are available for beginning through<br />

advanced levels, along with training in horse care and stable management.<br />

The Equestrian Center sponsors clinics, horse shows,<br />

summer youth equestrian camps and special events.
