The AS<strong>UC</strong>D President is the chief administrative officer and is<br />

assisted by the Vice President. AS<strong>UC</strong>D is the liaison for the undergraduate<br />

student body and represents the students with other universities,<br />

the community, the <strong>UC</strong> Office of the President and the<br />

regents.<br />

The judicial branch consists of the AS<strong>UC</strong>D Student Court. The<br />

nine member court the responsibility to carry out all rules designated<br />

to it in the AS<strong>UC</strong>D Constitution and its bylaws. AS<strong>UC</strong>D<br />

Court Members serve “life” terms, lasting four years or their entire<br />

academic career at <strong>UC</strong> <strong>Davis</strong>.<br />

The Office of the Chancellor encourages students to participate in<br />

issues affecting the campus community by applying for membership<br />

on an administrative advisory committee. Each committee<br />

focuses on a specific area, such as athletics, childcare, disability<br />

issues, Regents’ scholarships or student services and fees. The<br />

committees respond to requests for advice, identify needs or concerns<br />

within the charge of the committee and recommend action<br />

to the campus administration.<br />

Applications are accepted each winter for service on committees<br />

the next academic year. Undergraduate students should contact<br />

AS<strong>UC</strong>D Student Advocacy. Graduate students should contact the<br />

Graduate Student Association.<br />

The Graduate Student Association (GSA) is the officially recognized<br />

student government for <strong>UC</strong> <strong>Davis</strong> graduate students. GSA<br />

provides a forum for addressing the concerns of graduate students<br />

and promotes communication with campus administrators. GSA<br />

also serves as an advocate at all levels of the university on behalf of<br />

graduate students. Funded by graduate student fees, GSA provides<br />

services to all academic graduate students and to professional students<br />

in the Graduate School of Management. Services include<br />

new student orientation, legal service, travel awards, newsletters<br />

and assorted social events. Other professional students are eligible<br />

to join GSA by paying a fee.<br />

GSA <strong>General</strong> Assembly representatives are designated by other<br />

students in their department or graduate group. <strong>General</strong> Assembly<br />

meetings are held once a month and are open to all graduate and<br />

professional students. Each year the <strong>General</strong> Assembly elects the<br />

members of the Executive Council, who serve in a variety of positions<br />

to carry out the policies and functions of the organization.<br />

Studies have shown that college students who are involved in campus<br />

life through activities and organizations feel more connected<br />

to the campus, are more satisfied with their college experience and<br />

are more likely to graduate than non-involved students. The Student<br />

Programs and Activities Center (SPAC) provides students<br />

with opportunities for campus involvement, leadership development,<br />

community service, cross-cultural competence and collaboration<br />

by supporting a wide variety of student organization and<br />

campus programs.<br />

Student Organizations<br />

More than 465 student organizations are registered at <strong>UC</strong> <strong>Davis</strong><br />

through SPAC. They consist of cultural, social, religious, political,<br />

ethnic, academic, professional, international, recreational, performing<br />

arts and service groups, that provide students and the<br />

entire campus with important educational experiences. SPAC provides<br />

educational programs, consultation, training, event planning,<br />

leadership development, conflict resolution, resources and<br />

campus policies. More information about each registered student<br />

The Activities Faire held every October is an ideal opportunity to<br />

learn how to get involved, meet new people and try new activities,<br />

with over 190 student organizations and campus programs providing<br />

The Cal Aggie Marching Band Uh! celebrates campus traditions<br />

and entertains spectators at athletic, campus and community<br />

events. As one of the few student-run bands in the nation, the<br />

band has a style and personality indicative of <strong>UC</strong> <strong>Davis</strong>.<br />

The annual Culture Days programs strive to build an inclusive<br />

and welcoming campus community through programs that raise<br />

awareness and celebrate our cultural diversity. Programs include<br />

Asian Pacific Culture Week, Black Family Week, La Raza Cultural<br />

Days and Native American Culture Days. Everyone is invited to<br />

share in these programs featuring speakers, workshops, films,<br />

entertainment and family events.
