There is a difference in progesterone content among fore milk, composite milk, and strippings because <strong>of</strong> the variation in milk fat content ( Fig. 21-11 ) ( Garcia and Edqvist, 1990 ). This difference is less obvious when using skim milk for the immunoassay <strong>of</strong> progesterone, but the temperature must be controlled at centrifugation because warm butterfat will absorb progesterone more readily than cold butterfat ( Nachreiner et al. , 1992 ).
