has been suggested as another name for bovine ketosis.<br />

This hypoglycemia has played an important role in ketosis,<br />

as a rationale for therapy and as a basis for the concept<br />

<strong>of</strong> ketosis and pregnancy toxemia as manifestations <strong>of</strong> a<br />

carbohydrate deficiency, which occurs under conditions <strong>of</strong><br />

excessive and insurmountable demands.<br />

The ketone bodies are the same as those previously<br />

mentioned (Section V.3): AcAc, 3-OH-B, and acetone. A<br />

fourth compound, isopropanol, is included for the ruminant,<br />

and interconversions can occur between these ketone<br />

bodies. The fundamental mechanism and pathogenesis <strong>of</strong><br />

ketosis are covered in the lipids and ketones chapter.<br />
