EQR 121 Hunter I (1 SH)<br />

Pre-Requisite(s): EQR 120 and permission<br />

Building on and integrating skills gained in EQR 103 Riding<br />

Skills III and EQR 120 Introduction to Hunters, this class<br />

serves as an introduction to the advanced, training, riding<br />

and showing techniques required in today’s hunter arena.<br />

EQR 125 Introduction to Dressage and Theory (2 SH)<br />

Pre-Requisite(s): Successful completion of EQR 103 with<br />

a grade of A required<br />

Introduction to the discipline of dressage and its usefulness<br />

for all equestrian disciplines. Emphasis placed on the<br />

development of the seat for the effective rider. Theory<br />

classes cover the history and development of modern<br />

dressage. Beginning of the series of dressage courses and a<br />

prerequisite for EQ 126 Intermediate Dressage and Theory.<br />

Course may be repeated for six hours maximum credit.<br />

EQR 126 Dressage I (1 SH)<br />

Pre-Requisite(s): EQR 125 and permission<br />

Progressive training of the horse and rider to produce a<br />

harmonious partnership capable of performing successfully<br />

at first and second levels. Introduction to collection. Course<br />

may be repeated for six hours maximum credit.<br />

EQR 130 Introduction to Stadium Jumpers and Theory<br />

(2 SH)<br />

Pre-Requisite(s): Successful completion of EQR 103 with<br />

a grade of A required<br />

Course offers the opportunity to learn how to ride the<br />

jumper over a course of colorful fences, with control of<br />

speed and direction. Beginning of the series of jumper<br />

courses and a prerequisite for EQR 131 Stadium Jumping<br />

I. Course may be repeated for six hours maximum credit.<br />

EQR 131 Stadium Jumping I (1 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Spring<br />

Pre-Requisite(s): Permission<br />

More advanced courses over fences to develop skills necessary<br />

for successful competition in stadium jumping. Course<br />

may be repeated for six hours maximum credit.<br />

EQR 135 Introduction to Eventing and Theory (2 SH)<br />

Pre-Requisite(s): Successful completion of EQR 103 with<br />

a grade of A required<br />

Introduction to the sport of eventing including USEA<br />

rules. Fundamentals of all phases of eventing: dressage,<br />

cross-county and stadium jumping as well as elements of<br />

conditioning, pace, rules and preparation for competition.<br />

Beginning of the series of eventing courses and a prerequisite<br />

for EQR 136 Eventing I. Course may be repeated for<br />

six hours maximum credit.<br />

EQR 136 Eventing I (1 SH)<br />

Pre-Requisite(s): Permission<br />

Continuation of developing the fundamentals of all phases<br />

of eventing: dressage, cross county and stadium jumping as<br />

well as elements of conditioning, pace, rules and preparation<br />

for competition. Course may be repeated for six hours<br />

maximum credit.<br />

Equine Studies Riding (1-4 SH)<br />

Special interest riding courses periodically offered.<br />

EQR 301 Training I (2 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Fall<br />

Pre-Requisite(s): EQR 103, EQR 310 and Junior status.<br />

Theory and practice in initial training of young horses to<br />

ride. Students will be assigned an untrained or green horse<br />

for the semester.<br />

EQR 302 Training II (2 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Spring<br />

Pre-Requisite(s): EQR 301<br />

Theory and practice in working with spoiled or green<br />

horses. Students will be assigned a green horse for the<br />

semester.<br />

EQR 310 Schooling (2 SH)<br />

Pre-Requisite(s): EQR 103 and sophomore status<br />

This course is for students interested in training a variety of<br />

horses on the flat and/or over fences. Considerable lab time<br />

is given for students to gain more experience in training<br />

green, spoiled or problem horses.<br />

Courses in topics of special interest to faculty members<br />

and students are offered from time to time. For complete<br />

ET 201 Fundamentals of the Enterprise (4 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Fall<br />

The course provides an introduction to the structural,<br />

financial, economic, managerial, legal and operational<br />

fundamentals of organizations, profit and non-profit.<br />
