DN 220 Pilates I: Balance, Strength and Shape (2 SH)<br />
Semester Offered: Fall and Spring<br />
This course introduces the student to Pilates, an exercisebased<br />
system that aims to develop the body’s center to<br />
create a stable core for efficient and effective movement.<br />
Students will be guided through a series of Pilates exercises<br />
intended to realign structure, improve balance and<br />
enhance motor skills. May be taken twice for academic<br />
credit. Cross listed as PE 220<br />
DN 230 Beginning Composition (3 SH)<br />
Semester Offered: Fall even years<br />
Pre-Requisite(s): DN 101, 102, 103 or permission<br />
An exploration of the creative process and of the basic<br />
elements of choreography, arrived at through improvisation,<br />
imaginative response and the aesthetic shaping of<br />
movement ideas into solo studies. Emphasis placed on<br />
group discussion of studies.<br />
DN 250/350/450 Internship in Dance (1-5 SH)<br />
Opportunities for field work in dance. Students are<br />
required to complete 75 hours of work for each credit hour<br />
registered and earned. An Internship Application must be<br />
completed and filed with the Office of Career Services and<br />
Internships.<br />
DN 301 Ballet Technique III (1 or 2 SH)<br />
Semester Offered: Fall<br />
Pre-Requisite(s): Permission<br />
Study of the vocabulary, technique and theory of ballet<br />
at the intermediate/advanced level. Emphasis on body<br />
alignment and efficiency of movement. May be taken twice<br />
for academic credit.<br />
DN 302 Modern Dance Technique and Theory III<br />
(1 or 2 SH)<br />
Semester Offered: Spring<br />
Pre-Requisite(s): Permission<br />
Study of the fundamental principles of modern dance at<br />
the intermediate/advanced level. Emphasis on alignment,<br />
creativity, rhythm and the aesthetics of contemporary<br />
dance. May be taken twice for academic credit.<br />
DN 304 Hip Hop Dance II (2 SH)<br />
A continuation of the study of the fundamentals of the Hip<br />
Hop dance style. Emphasis is on the development of skills,<br />
familiarity with rhythm, freestyle and musicality. May be<br />
taken twice for academic credit.<br />
DN 310 Repertory and Performance II (2 SH)<br />
Semester Offered: Spring<br />
Concurrent Requisite(s): DN 201/301/401 or DN<br />
202/302/402<br />
Student prepares for and performs in dance concert.<br />
Choreography created by faculty and guest artists.<br />

Study the fundamentals of Pilates mat work at the intermediate<br />
level. Emphasis is on strengthening the core muscles,<br />
increase body awareness and muscle tone, flexibility and<br />
coordination. May be taken twice for academic credit. Cross<br />
listed as PE 320.<br />
DN 325 Methods of Teaching Dance (4 SH)<br />
Pre-Requisite(s): DN 101, 102, 103 or permission<br />
Exploration of the special awareness and skills necessary to<br />
create and teach dance classes. Emphasis placed on body<br />
mechanics, rhythmic analysis and the encouragement of<br />
creativity.<br />
DN 330 Intermediate Composition (3 SH)<br />
Pre-Requisite(s): DN 230<br />
Continuation of the exploration of the creative process<br />
and of the principles of choreography. Emphasis placed<br />
on group composition and on performance preparation.<br />
DN 400 Multidisciplinary Art and Digital Performance (4 SH)<br />
Pre-Requisite(s): Junior or Senior Standing<br />
This course explores experimental and traditional work of<br />
integrating digital technologies into visual, dance, music<br />
and theater performances. This includes working with<br />
digital projections, real-time processing of data (i.e. music<br />
data connected and controlling visual display or devices<br />
controlling instruments/sounds), sensors, motion tracking<br />
via software and other emerging technologies. Reading<br />
about contemporary performances and art will be included,<br />
and we will work towards creating a performance/installation<br />
within this multidisciplinary course. Cross listed as<br />

DN 401 Ballet Technique IV (1 or 2 SH)<br />
