MN 302 Training and Development (4 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Spring even years<br />

Pre-requisite(s): Sophomore status, MN 200<br />

This course is a study of training issues, methodology, and<br />

applications associated with the development of skills and<br />

knowledge within the workplace, especially as it impacts<br />

job performance and employee development. Topics<br />

include learning theory and motivation, organizational<br />

needs analysis, approaches to adult learning, types of<br />

training and assessment techniques, together with key<br />

organizational training topics, e.g., Orientation, Diversity.<br />

Development and delivery of formal training sessions will<br />

cap student learning.<br />

MN 310 Operations Management (4 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Fall<br />

Pre-Requisite(s): MN 200, MN 216<br />

This course examines the production and operations system<br />

of the firm and appraises the methods available to aid in<br />

management decision-making. Production and inventory<br />

control and general plant management techniques are<br />

surveyed. Both manufacturing and service organizations<br />

are analyzed.<br />

MN 312 Human Resource Management (4 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Fall odd years<br />

Pre-Requisite(s): MN 200<br />

An examination of the concepts, practices and problems of<br />

administering human resource functions in an organization.<br />

This course is useful for those pursuing careers as human<br />

resource managers as well as general managers. Topics<br />

covered include recruitment, selection, placement, training,<br />

safety, job design, performance evaluation, employee<br />

services, unions, wage administration and employee<br />

retention.<br />

MN 315 Leadership (4 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Spring<br />

A survey course covering the history, philosophy, theories<br />

and concepts of leadership. This course will differentiate<br />

between the roles of the manager and the leader and<br />

provide the student with the foundations of leadership.<br />

MN 320 Organizational Development (4 SH)<br />

Basic, yet comprehensive, overview of organizational<br />

development. Evolution of field, key concepts and methods<br />

that drive organizational development; techniques to<br />

diagnose opportunities for change; and tools to implement<br />

and evaluate organizational development initiatives.<br />

MN 323 Organizational Behavior (4 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Fall and Spring<br />

Pre-Requisite(s): Sophomore standing, MN 200<br />

This course examines the social, psychological, anthropological<br />

and cultural aspects of the workplace. Topics such<br />

as goals, motivation, job satisfaction, communication,<br />

diversity, technology, leadership, teams and conflict are<br />

examined from a human behavioral perspective. Experiential<br />

exercises are used to observe human behavior in<br />

the classroom.<br />

MN 325 Quality Management (4 SH)<br />

TQM principles and practices, leadership, customer satisfaction,<br />

employee involvement, continuous process improvement,<br />

supplier partnership, performance measures,<br />

statistical process control, ISO standards, benchmarking,<br />

quality function deployment, concurrent engineering,<br />

experimental design, Taguchi’s quality engineering and<br />

product liability.<br />

MN 410 Labor Relations (4 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Fall odd years<br />

Pre-Requisite(s): MN 200 or permission of the instructor.<br />

An evaluation of labor-management relationships, wage<br />

determination and the factors affecting labor productivity.<br />

Studies also include the objectives and techniques of<br />

management and union leaders and the administration of<br />

the labor relations function.<br />

MN 430 Managing the Small Business (4 SH)<br />

Pre-Requisite(s): MN 200, FN 320, MK 203<br />

A study of the nature of entrepreneurship and discipline<br />

required for owning or managing a small enterprise. The<br />

course examines the risk-reward relationships in new<br />

ventures, legal forms of businesses, roads to ownership<br />

and funding resources for new and existing ventures.<br />

MATHEMATICS (MT)<br />

MT 104 Basic Concepts of Algebra (4 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Fall and Spring<br />

Pre-Requisite(s): Placement<br />

For students with a weak mathematics background:<br />

Intended to prepare students for MT 107 Applied <strong>College</strong><br />

Algebra. This course covers the material from secondary<br />

school mathematics: Integers, rational numbers, exponents,<br />

order of operations, algebraic and rational expressions,<br />

ratio and proportions, operations on polynomials,<br />

solving and graphing simple equations, inequalities, Linear<br />

and quadratic equations. Students taking this course should<br />

have had two years of high school math including Algebra<br />

I. Placement is through the mathematics department.<br />

This course does not fulfill the mathematics graduation<br />

requirement.<br />
