The documentation must be no more than three years old, if the student was tested before age 21 and within a five year<br />

period in the case of adults tested after age 21. Documentation must contain the date of assessment and the diagnosis.<br />

It must list the assessment tools utilized describe the functional limitations of the disability and support the need for<br />

specific accommodations. The documentation must include relevant recommendations regarding the curriculum, as<br />

well as testing considerations. No accommodation will be assured until the appropriate documentation is on file. <strong>Lake</strong><br />

<strong>Erie</strong> <strong>College</strong> reserves the right to require that a student provide more complete and/or updated documentation at any<br />

time. All records are confidential.<br />

It is the responsibility of students with disabilities to seek available assistance at the <strong>College</strong> and to make their needs<br />

known to the Director of the Student Success Center. The students must meet with the Director upon admission to the<br />

<strong>College</strong> or when a disability becomes known to discuss any special needs. All assistance/accommodations are coordinated<br />

through the Director of the Student Success Center.<br />

Accommodations are reviewed each semester by the Director, the student and a consultant in the area in which the<br />

disability occurs, if necessary. While <strong>Lake</strong> <strong>Erie</strong> <strong>College</strong> will provide reasonable accommodations, academic success is the<br />

student’s responsibility. Instructors will be expected to assist with the provision of accommodations when reasonable<br />

and necessary. Instructors are not expected to compromise essential elements of the course or evaluation standards.<br />

Some of the accommodations which may be available to students with documented disabilities include textbooks on<br />

CD, peer and professional tutoring, additional time for testing, testing in a distraction-free environment, small study<br />

groups, peer and professional editing, time-management and organization assistance, and personal coaching for success.<br />

Health and Wellness Resources<br />

The <strong>Lake</strong> <strong>Erie</strong> <strong>College</strong> Student Success Center offers a wide range of opportunities to the campus community in the area<br />

of health and wellness. Health and wellness services available on campus include;, social and academic counseling,<br />

academic support and monitoring, as well as referrals for dental assistance and psychiatric services as needed.<br />

In addition, assistance to students with disabilities and referrals to community mental health agencies is available<br />

upon request. The staff provides screenings for ADHD/ADD, depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder as<br />

well as referrals to outside agencies for drug and alcohol rehabilitation as needed. In addition, referrals for individual<br />

counseling and psychological services in many areas are available upon request, as well as support for student athletes<br />

in many areas of academic and social life.<br />

Residential students are strongly encouraged to make the Student Success Center staff aware of all on-going health<br />

and wellness issues as well as any medications prescribed and taken regularly. The staff is happy to collaborate with<br />

your current healthcare and/or counseling provider to assist you in locating a local provider near the <strong>Lake</strong> <strong>Erie</strong> <strong>College</strong><br />

campus. Confidentiality will be maintained at all times and students, while not required, will have the opportunity to<br />

sign release forms for collaboration with parents, personal healthcare and counseling providers to assure the highest<br />

level of the continuity of care while at <strong>Lake</strong> <strong>Erie</strong> <strong>College</strong>.<br />

All residential students, student athletes and equestrian students are required to provide proof that they are covered<br />

by a health insurance plan.<br />

The TriPoint Medical Center and University Hospitals of Cleveland are available to treat any student upon request.<br />

Students under the age of 18 must have an authorization on file in the Student Success Center should the need for<br />

emergency treatment arise.<br />

Career Services and Internships<br />

The Office of Career Services and Internships empowers students to build bridges to their future careers by providing<br />

resources, programs and services that enable students to translate their academic and co-curricular experiences to<br />

the world of work in a diverse global environment. Services include personalized career coaching as well as workshops<br />

touching on topics such as: resume writing, internships, interview and job search techniques, dressing for success,<br />

etiquette and preparing for graduate or professional school.<br />

The Office of Career Services and Internships also coordinates the process for internship registration. Although not<br />

all majors are required to register for internships, all students are encouraged to register for internships to integrate<br />

academics with their career goals. To qualify for an internship, students must be of sophomore status, preferably junior/<br />

senior status and be in good academic standing maintaining a minimum 2.0 GPA. Internships represent academic courses<br />

and students must be registered for academic credit for their internship at the same time they are performing the hours.<br />

<strong>Lake</strong> <strong>Erie</strong> <strong>College</strong> utilizes the Storm Career Network powered by <strong>College</strong> Central, an online employment database where<br />

employers can post job and internship opportunities as well as register to search the resumes of students and alumni<br />

who have posted on the site. Students looking for employment possibilities can search through the jobs and internships<br />

that have been posted as well as apply for them online. More information on all of the services and programs available<br />
