CJ 331 Judicial Process (4 SH)<br />

An examination of the development and functions of the<br />

judicial system in the United States and the role of courts<br />

in the policy process. Topics include theories of law and<br />

jurisprudence, the structure of the judiciary, civil and<br />

criminal procedures, judicial selection and decision-making<br />

and the impact of courts on the legislative and executive<br />

This course examines the relationship between psychology<br />

and law. The structure of the course will be lectures, discussion,<br />

Both academic and practical experiences will cover juries,<br />

civil commitment, violence prediction, competency, the<br />

insanity defense, eyewitness testimony and the death<br />

This course introduces students to life in an organization.<br />

Organizational definitions, culture and relationships<br />

between government and society are covered. The focus<br />

of the course is on developing successful communication<br />

strategies within organizations. Verbal, written and team<br />

communications are stressed. The use of technology in<br />

aiding and enhancing communication is also covered.<br />

This course provides students with the means to develop<br />

effective communication strategies and techniques and to<br />

Sport has been described as “one of the most pervasive<br />

social institutions in the United States” and its importance<br />

can easily be seen in terms of hourly news coverage, personal<br />

conversations, economic contributions, participant<br />

involvement, etc. This course focuses on how the communication<br />

of sports influences perceptions of social reality<br />

and individual and group identity. Our understanding of<br />

various communication concepts and research techniques<br />

will be built through the discussions and applications of the<br />

This course introduces the basic interpersonal theories<br />

and models examining and explaining the processes of<br />

interpersonal communication.<br />

CM 220 Small Group Communication (4 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Spring even years<br />

Small group communication is examined in terms of group<br />

evolution and patterns leadership, roles, decision making<br />

and participation. Small group skills are addressed through<br />

application.<br />

CM 225 Tower News (2 SH)<br />

The Tower News course is a hands-on course involving the<br />

writing, editing and production of the student newspaper.<br />

The newspaper is an opportunity for all majors to develop<br />

their professional skills by expressing their voices, practice<br />

their writing skills, engaging in interviews, developing their<br />

business skills and recording history. Note: CM 225 and<br />

CM 325 are repeatable up to a total of 12 semester credits<br />

towards graduation.<br />
