FN 345 Financial Planning (4 SH)<br />

Pre-Requisite(s): FN 320, EC 200, MN 215<br />

Asset and liability management focusing on the needs<br />

and resources of the individual. Topics include principles<br />

and practices of investment, portfolio management, the<br />

determination of investment values, the role and functioning<br />

of the securities and money markets, security analysis<br />

and the use of the computer in portfolio selection.<br />

FN 360 Independent Study in Finance (1-5 SH)<br />

Students study topics of interest not offered as regular<br />

courses.<br />

FN 404 Financial Systems (4 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Fall<br />

Pre-Requisite(s): FN 320<br />

The course will provide an overview of financial markets<br />

and institutions. The analysis will focus on the function<br />

of financial intermediaries, the regulatory environment<br />

under which the markets and these institutions work and<br />

management concerns emphasizing current issues.<br />

FN 405 Investments (4 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Spring<br />

Pre-Requisite(s): FN 320<br />

An overview of the investment process both from the<br />

perspectives of individual investors and institutional<br />

investors. It will focus on different investment instruments,<br />

securities markets, market indices, security selection,<br />

including fundamental and technical analyses and portfolio<br />

management.<br />

Fundamentals of written and spoken language. Emphasis<br />

is placed on vocabulary acquisition and mastery of basic<br />

grammar concepts.<br />

FR 102 Beginning French II (4 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Spring<br />

Pre-Requisite(s): FR 101 or permission of instructor<br />

Continuation of the study of grammar, syntax and vocabulary.<br />

Further development of speaking and writing skills and<br />

of reading facility and comprehension.<br />

FR 160/260/360/460 Individual Investigation in French<br />

(2-5 SH)<br />

Independent study of topics not offered as regular courses.<br />

FR 170-79/270-79/370-79/470-79 Special Topics in French<br />

(1-4 SH)<br />

Study, discuss and write on topics of particular interest<br />

to students in advanced standing. Examples of topics:<br />

Colonization and decolonization, Québécois culture, focus<br />

on a single writer or filmmaker, advanced grammar, French<br />

Feminism, Modernism, etc.<br />

FR 201 Intermediate French (4 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Fall<br />

Pre-Requisite(s): FR 102 or permission of instructor<br />

This course focuses on the active usage of the material<br />

learned in FR 101 and 102. Communication skills are built<br />

through an interactive classroom atmosphere based on the<br />

discussion of readings and visual media.<br />

FR 210 Studies in Francophone Contemporary Cultures<br />

(4 SH)<br />

Pre-Requisite(s): FR 201<br />

Study, discuss and write on topics of particular interest<br />

to students. Examples of topics include current events,<br />

business and economic issues, intermediate-advanced<br />

grammar through authentic texts, travel and tourism, etc.<br />

FR 220 French Conversation (4 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Spring<br />

Pre-Requisite(s): FR 102 or permission of instructor<br />

This course continues to build oral and written communication<br />

skills. Conversational exercises such as role-playing<br />

and short oral presentations are emphasized, as well as<br />

continued interactive work with visual media and short<br />

readings.<br />

FR 250/350/450 Internship in French (1-5 SH)<br />

Pre-Requisite(s): FR 201; and 310 (recommended)<br />

Assist students in arranging internship opportunities with<br />

multinational companies both in the U. S. and abroad. Students<br />

may take internships during the semester as well as<br />

during the summer. Students are required to complete 75<br />

hours of work for each credit hour registered and earned.<br />

An Internship Application must be completed and filed with<br />

the Office of Career Services and Internships.<br />

FR 260/360/460 Individual Investigation in French (2-4 SH)<br />

An independent study course providing an opportunity<br />

to pursue a topic of particular interest. Available only for<br />

students who have completed FR 102.<br />
