BI 333 Animal Behavior (4 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Fall of Odd Years<br />

Pre-Requisite(s): BI 101 and one 200 level course<br />

A course designed to introduce the student to the basic<br />

concepts in the structure, development, ecology and<br />

evolution of behavior in a wide range of animals. Films<br />

and an observational study play a key role in the course.<br />

No laboratory.<br />

BI 450 Clinical Observation (1 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Fall and Spring<br />

Pre-Requisite(s): Declared biology/pre-occupational<br />

therapy or biology/pre-physical therapy major, junior<br />

standing and permission of the instructor<br />

This course provides the students with an opportunity to<br />

actively observe a licensed therapist in a real-world situation<br />

where they will learn about the day-to-day activities<br />

of the practice and the variable needs and circumstances<br />

of the patients who seek treatment there. This is a variable<br />

credit course. Students will complete 75 hours of<br />

observation/volunteer work on-site for each hour of credit<br />

and be evaluated directly by the supervisory therapist, pr<br />

therapists, if more than one site is observed.<br />

BI 490 Biology Senior Capstone (2 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Fall and Spring<br />

Pre-Requisite(s): Senior Status<br />

This course will offer the opportunity for the student to<br />

participate in directed studies or research in the biological<br />

sciences in consultation with the biology faculty. The<br />

student will determine a research focus for the semester;<br />

gather published research; conduct original research, as<br />

appropriate; and prepare a comprehensive thesis describing<br />

the state of the science in their focus area. Participation<br />

in the annual Math & Science Research Symposium is<br />

required.<br />

CH 100 Chemistry in Context (4 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Fall<br />

**Fulfills Scientific Inquiry Core Requirement starting with<br />

the 2012-2013 Academic <strong>Catalog</strong>.<br />

Chemistry in Context is a study of chemical principles as<br />

they apply to social, political, economic and ethical issues.<br />

The purpose of this course is to allow students not majoring<br />

in a science field the opportunity to develop critical thinking<br />

skills, gain the chemical knowledge and competency to<br />

assess the risks and benefits of technology-based issues.<br />

CH 103 General Chemistry I (3 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Fall<br />

Concurrent Requisite(s): CH 103L<br />

A study of the laws and theories of chemistry, including<br />

stoichiometry, atomic structure, bonding, ideal gas laws<br />

and thermochemistry. Open to all students.<br />
