INSTITUTIONAL OVERVIEW AND MISSION STATEMENT
Institutional Overview
Founded in 1856, Lake Erie College is an independent, coeducational institution located thirty miles east of Cleveland,
Ohio, offering instruction at the baccalaureate and master degree levels. Programs of study are founded in the liberal
arts and are offered through the Schools of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences; Natural Sciences; Business; Equine
Studies; and Professional & Continuing Education. The College seeks to accommodate traditional and nontraditional
age students on both a full-time and part-time basis.
The College is located in Painesville, the seat of Lake County, in the heart of the Western Reserve. The small-town
setting and historic homes surrounding the campus provide a traditional academic environment, while the proximity
to Cleveland offers the cultural advantages of a major metropolitan area.
The campus consists of 18 buildings of both traditional and contemporary styles. Five miles south of the campus is
Morley Farm, whose eighty-six acres are home to the George M. Humphrey Equestrian Center and Victor Manor House,
residence of the College President and site of a variety of College and community activities.
Mission Statement
In the context of a long liberal arts tradition, Lake Erie College provides distinctive undergraduate and graduate programs
