IT 412 Studies in Contemporary Italian Literature and<br />

Culture (4 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Fall odd 4th year<br />

The readings and understanding of Dante’s Divine Comedy<br />

with selected multidisciplinary critical works and films. The<br />

Divine Comedy is a world literature masterpiece that has<br />

come to be regarded as one of our great human treasures.<br />

It offers an almost encyclopedic presentation of classical<br />

and medieval ethics, philosophy, theology, politics, and<br />

some of the most imaginative, stirring and beautiful poetry<br />

ever written.<br />

IT 413 Studies in Italian Renaissance (4 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Fall even 4th<br />

Italian Renaissance is a period of great cultural change<br />

and achievement. It is an explosion of the creativity, of<br />

the beauty, and of the excellence of the human mind.<br />

Philosophical ideas of the Italian Renaissance such as<br />

the dignity of Man (a precursor of the principle of basic<br />

human rights), and the belief in an ideal, in a free world,<br />

still inform our discourse today. This course examines this<br />

great cultural achievement through major authors, artists,<br />

philosophers, musicians, explorers, trends and intellectual<br />

movements of the Italian Renaissance.<br />

IT 420 Studies in Italian Fine Arts (2 or 4 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Spring odd 4th year<br />

Study of some of the major periods in fine arts and the<br />

social trends and historical events that shaped them.<br />

Emphasis will be placed on particular artistic movements<br />

and their representative artists. Visits to nearby museums.<br />

Also offered at study centers abroad.<br />

IT 422 Studies in Italian Cinema (2 or 4 SH)<br />

A selection of some representative films and their impact<br />

on the culture and on the society from the birth of cinema<br />

to current day are examined and analyzed<br />

IT 490 Senior Project (4 SH)<br />

This capstone experience is designed as an interdisciplinary<br />

project based either on the student’s internship experience,<br />

the student’s term abroad, the interrelationship of the<br />

student’s two fields of study or any combination of the<br />

above.<br />

LEGAL STUDIES (LG)<br />

LG 110 Introduction to Legal Assisting (2 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Fall<br />

A study of the functioning of legal assistants in law-related<br />

employment including legal interviewing, investigation,<br />

formal and informal advocacy support roles, as well as<br />

a study of ethical conduct required by lawyers and their<br />

employees as prescribed by the rules of professional<br />

conduct. This course is recommended before taking other<br />

Courses will be offered on a rotating basis and are designed<br />

to keep students abreast of current legal issues for example;<br />

current Supreme Court decisions.<br />

LG 210 Principles of Legal Research and Writing (4 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Fall<br />

Pre-Requisite(s): EN 101 or permission of instructor<br />

A study and practical application of legal research skills<br />

and citation forms; analysis and determination of issues<br />

of law and fact and evaluations of points and authorities.<br />

LG 220 Criminal Law and Procedure (4 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Spring<br />

A course of study to familiarize the student with the classification<br />

and types of criminal offenses and all aspects of<br />

criminal procedures. Cross-listed as CJ 220.<br />

LG 222 Civil Litigation and Procedure (4 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Spring even years<br />

A study of the practice of the attorney within the state and<br />

federal judicial system, including the choice of legal forms,<br />

filing of civil actions and motions before, during and after<br />

trial and appellate practice.<br />

LG 230 Investigative Techniques (4 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Fall<br />

A study of the skills necessary to carry out investigative fact<br />

finding (i.e. insurance work, preparation for trial, on-site<br />

investigations, etc.). Includes public records research.<br />

LG 250/350/450 Internship in Legal Studies (1-5 SH)<br />

Internships are academic courses that take place in professional<br />

work settings and call for the application of concepts<br />

learned in the classroom. Students gain on-the-job experience<br />

under supervision by working directly with a manager<br />

in a business or not-for-profit organization. Students are<br />

required to complete 75 hours of work for each credit hour<br />

registered and earned. An Internship Application must be<br />

completed and filed with the Office of Career Services and<br />

Internships.
