BA 400 Senior Seminar (4 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Fall and Spring<br />

Pre-Requisite(s): Senior status<br />

This course applies knowledge and skills learned in all other<br />

courses required for the bachelor’s degree. Business strategies<br />

and policies are formulated from the perspective of a<br />

general manager. Case studies and group projects are used<br />

to further develop students’ skills in problem solving and<br />

decision making. Students use technology in constructing<br />

written reports and presentations.<br />

BA 450 International Internship (1-5 SH)<br />

Pre-Requisite(s): Completion of all other courses required<br />

for the international business major.<br />

This internship is reserved exclusively for international<br />

business majors and serves as a capstone to the major.<br />

Students will be assigned to work with regional companies<br />

or trade organizations active in international business.<br />

Where similar opportunities exist abroad, candidates will<br />

be selected according to their fluency ratings in a foreign<br />

language. Students are required to complete 75 hours<br />

of work for each credit hour registered and earned. An<br />

Internship Application must be completed and filed with<br />

the Office of Career Services and Internships.<br />

BIOLOGY (BI)<br />

BI 100 Concepts of Biology (4 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Fall and Spring<br />

This course explores the breadth of modern biology and<br />

is intended to illuminate relevant science issues in society.<br />

The specific focus of this course will change from semester<br />

to semester and may include any or all of the following<br />

topics: human health concerns, genetics and reproduction,<br />

the role of biotechnology in medicine and food production,<br />

biodiversity loss and habitat degradation and global climate<br />

issues.<br />

BI 101 Introductory Biology I (3 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Fall and Spring<br />

Concurrent Requisite(s): BI 101L<br />

The first of a two-course sequence for the Biology major,<br />

Introductory Biology I covers the scientific method, the<br />

chemical basis of life, energetics, cell structure and function,<br />

genetics and biotechnology, the origins of life and<br />

evolution. Note: If BI 101 is chosen to satisfy the “Scientific<br />

Inquiry” general education requirement at <strong>Lake</strong> <strong>Erie</strong><br />

<strong>College</strong>, then both the lecture (BI 101) and laboratory (BI<br />

101L) are required.<br />

BI 101L Introductory Biology I Lab (1 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Fall and Spring<br />

Concurrent Requisite(s): BI 101<br />

Introductory Biology I Lab familiarizes students with the<br />

basic tools of a biology laboratory and uses descriptive<br />

and experimental approaches to illustrate basic concepts<br />

presented in BI 101.<br />

BI 102 Introductory Biology II (3 SH)<br />

Pre-Requisite(s): BI 101, BI 101L<br />

Concurrent Requisite(s): BI 102L<br />

The second of a two-course sequence for the Biology<br />

major, Introductory Biology II surveys the kingdoms of life,<br />

taxonomy and biodiversity, basic mammalian anatomy,<br />

ecology and critical issues concerning the health of the<br />

planet.<br />

BI 102L Introductory Biology II Lab (1 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Fall and Spring<br />

Pre-Requisite(s): BI 101, BI 101L<br />

Concurrent Requisite(s): BI 102<br />

Introductory Biology II Lab provides hands-on experience<br />

for topics from BI 102 including study of preserved and<br />

living specimens of organisms and some animal dissection.<br />

BI 104 Introduction to Environmental Science (4 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Fall and Spring<br />

The environmental concerns of humans considered from<br />

a scientific perspective. Topics include basic ecological<br />

principles, world food, energy problems and threats to<br />

ecosystems. Open to all students.<br />

BI 160/260/360/460 Individual Investigation in Biology<br />

(1-5 SH)<br />

Supervised investigation of topics not offered as regular<br />

courses in the biology curriculum.<br />

BI 170-79/270-79/370-79/470-79 Special Topics in Biology<br />

(1-4 SH)<br />

Pre-Requisite(s): Varies with the nature of the topic and<br />

may include permission of the instructor<br />

Biological topics of a specialized interdisciplinary nature<br />

not otherwise covered in the regular course offerings.<br />

Students may take several courses under this number.<br />

Among topics that have been taught are ornithology,<br />

evolutionary biology, forensic biology, marine ecology and<br />

rain forest ecology.<br />
