TH 210 Physical Training and Performance Techniques<br />

(4 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Spring even years<br />

A studio course in preparing the performer’s body for<br />

work in the theatre. The course will introduce the student<br />

to the tools of amplification, equilibrium, opposition and<br />

physical characterization. The student will learn a variety of<br />

exercises from different training methods, such as Michael<br />

Chekhov technique, Meyerhold’s biomechanics and the<br />

Polish Laboratory Theatre’s plastique exercises, as well<br />

as a variety of performance techniques, such as clowning<br />

and tumbling.<br />

TH 211 Vocal Training and Performance Techniques (4 SH)<br />

A studio course in preparing the performer’s voice for<br />

work in the theatre. The course will introduce the student<br />

to training methods which expand the range and subtext<br />

and vocal resonators.<br />

TH 220 Stagecraft (4 SH)<br />

Pre-Requisite(s): TH107 or permission of the instructor<br />

The course explores methods, techniques and theories<br />

based on the principles and practical conventions of set<br />

construction, drafting interpretation for prop and scenery<br />

design and scenic painting.<br />

TH 250/350/450 Internship in Theatre (1-5 SH)<br />

An opportunity for field studies under professional<br />

supervision during the academic year and summer. Open<br />

to all students with permission. Students are required to<br />

complete 75 hours of work for each credit hour registered<br />

and earned. An Internship Application must be completed<br />

and filed with the Office of Career Services and Internships.<br />

TH 304 Scenic Design (4 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Spring even years<br />

Pre-Requisite(s): TH 107<br />

The basic principles of scene design are examined through<br />

script analysis as it related to ground plan formulation in<br />

theatrical spaces. Drafting, perspective drawing, rendering<br />

skills, set construction and scenic painting are explored as tools<br />

for creating and developing a theatrical scenic design concept.<br />

TH 308 Directing (4 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Fall even 4th year<br />

Pre-Requisite(s): Permission of the instructor<br />

A study of the elements and techniques employed to project<br />

the values inherent in a play. Presentation of act plays.<br />

TH 315 Lighting Design (4 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Spring odd<br />

This course is designed to teach the fundamentals of<br />

theatrical lighting utilizing both theoretical and practical<br />

approaches.<br />

TH 316 Playwriting (4 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Fall even 4th year<br />

Pre-Requisite(s): Competence in written English and one<br />

course in dramatic literature or theater history or permission<br />

of the instructor<br />

A skills and information course in writing for the stage.<br />

Practical consideration of how the playwright controls<br />

plot, characterization and language to reveal thought<br />

is examined through creative exercises in writing in the<br />

dramatic form.<br />

TH 319 Costume Design (4 SH)<br />

Pre-Requisite(s): One course in theater history or dramatic<br />

literature or permission of the instructor<br />

A study of the history of dress and how it is modified and<br />

adapted to serve dramatic purpose on stage. Includes<br />

practical aspects of costume construction.<br />

TH 404 Senior Project in Theatre (4 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Fall<br />

The Senior Project is the final project for B.F.A. candidates<br />

and is the culmination of the student’s work in the chosen<br />

area.<br />

TH 405 Senior Project in Theatre (4 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Spring<br />

The Senior Project is the final project for B.F.A. candidates<br />

and is the culmination of the student’s work in the chosen<br />

area.<br />

TH 406 Multidisciplinary Art and Digital Performance (4<br />

SH)<br />

Pre-Requisite(s): Junior or Senior Standing<br />

This course explores experimental and traditional work of<br />

integrating digital technologies into visual, dance, music<br />

and theater performances. This includes working with<br />

digital projections, real-time processing of data (i.e. music<br />

data connected and controlling visual display or devices<br />

controlling instruments/sounds), sensors, motion tracking<br />

via software and other emerging technologies. Reading<br />

about contemporary performances and art will be included<br />

and we will work towards creating a performance/installation<br />

within this multidisciplinary course. Cross listed as<br />

AT 400, DN 400, FA 400, IM 400, MU 400.<br />
