Education (2-4 SH)<br />

Courses in topics of special interest to faculty members<br />

and students are offered from time to time. For complete<br />

course descriptions, students are directed to the schedule<br />

of classes, available in the Registrar’s Office.<br />

PE 200 Body Wellness (2 SH)<br />

This course involves guided explorations in movement<br />

fundamentals, relaxation techniques, exercises to increase<br />

strength, flexibility, ease of motion and dynamic alignment.<br />

The class consists of discussions on wellness, such as nutrition<br />

and stress reduction. Students participate in warm-up,<br />

aerobic workout and cool down through stretching. No<br />

dance experience is required.<br />

PE 216 Anatomical Kinesiology (3 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Spring<br />

The exploration of the primary bones, joints and muscle<br />

groups that participate in vertical alignment and efficient<br />

movement. Explorations proceed with exercises designed<br />

to locate the positions and to experience the motions<br />

of these groups in the initiation of effective posture and<br />

efficient movement. Students in dance, athletics and riding<br />

may find this course of interest.<br />

PE 220 Pilates I: Balance, Strength and Shape (2 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Fall and Spring<br />

This course introduces the student to Pilates, an exercisebased<br />

system that aims to develop the body’s center to<br />

create a stable core for efficient and effective movement.<br />

Students will be guided through a series of Pilates exercises<br />

intended to realign structure, improve balance and<br />

enhance motor skills. May be taken twice for academic<br />

credit. Cross-listed as DN 220.<br />

PE 250/350/450 Internship in Physical Education (1-5 SH)<br />

Students are required to complete 75 hours of work for<br />

each credit hour registered and earned. An Internship<br />

Application must be completed and filed with the Office<br />

of Career Services and Internships.<br />

PE 320 Pilates II: Balance, Strength and Shape (2 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Fall and Spring<br />

Pre-Requisite(s): DN 220 or PE 220<br />

Study the fundamentals of Pilates mat work at the intermediate<br />

level. Emphasis is on strengthening the core muscles,<br />

increase body awareness and muscle tone, flexibility and<br />

coordination. May be taken twice for academic credit.<br />

Cross-listed as DN 320.<br />

Team Sports<br />

Members of intercollegiate sports teams learn to improve<br />

their skills and playing ability in respective sports. The<br />

intercollegiate sports include women’s volleyball, women’s<br />

and men’s soccer, women’s and men’s basketball, women’s<br />

softball, women’s and men’s golf, football, baseball, swim<br />

team, women’s and men’s track & field, women’s and<br />

men’s cross-country and women’s and men’s tennis. Only<br />

two semester credits from team sports may count toward<br />

degree completion. All team sports are graded pass/fail.<br />
