MT 209 Discrete Mathematics (4 SH)<br />

Pre-Requisite(s): MT 210 or higher or permission of<br />

instructor<br />

Discrete mathematics is an introduction to proofs and<br />

mathematical reasoning in the context of discrete mathematical<br />

structures. Topics include proof techniques,<br />

mathematical logic, set theory, relations, elementary<br />

function theory and the Division Algorithm.<br />

MT 210 Calculus and Analytical Geometry I (5 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Fall<br />

Pre-Requisite(s): MT 110 or placement<br />

A study of elementary calculus with analytical geometry<br />

including the topics of integration, approximation, derivation<br />

of algebraic, logarithmic, exponential, trigonometric<br />

and inverse trigonometric functions with applications.<br />

MT 211 Calculus and Analytical Geometry II (4 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Spring<br />

Pre-Requisite(s): MT 210<br />

A continuation of Calculus and Analytical Geometry I,<br />

including the fundamental theorems, polar coordinates,<br />

indeterminate forms, improper integrals, infinite series<br />

and more analytical geometry.<br />

MT 213 Calculus and Analytical Geometry III (4 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Fall<br />

Pre-Requisite(s): MT 211<br />

A continuation of Calculus and Analytical Geometry II,<br />

including vectors and solid analytical geometry, partial differentiation,<br />

multiple integrals and line and surface integrals.<br />

MT 300 Modern Geometry and Logic (4 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Fall of even years<br />

Pre-Requisite(s): MT 109, MT 110 or permission of instructor<br />

Logic section includes simple and compound statements,<br />

valid arguments and inductive and deductive reasoning.<br />

The geometry covers axiomatic foundations of Euclidean<br />

and Non-Euclidean geometries, finite geometry, transformations,<br />

congruence, formal proofs, tessellations, fractals<br />

and use of computer graphics technology.<br />

MT 303 The History of Mathematics (4 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Spring of even years<br />

Pre-Requisite(s): MT 109, or permission of instructor<br />

A cross-cultural historical study of mathematics over the<br />

past centuries; the mathematical thoughts from ancient<br />

to modern times, women in mathematics, biographies of<br />

mathematicians and application of mathematics to science.<br />

Solution of various types of differential equations with<br />

interpretations and applications.<br />

MT 311 Intermediate Analysis I (4 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Fall of even years<br />

Pre-Requisite(s): MT 211 and junior status, or permission<br />

Introductions to the real-number system, sequences,<br />

convergence, continuity and limits of functions, series,<br />

differentiation and Riemann integration.<br />

MT 323 Modern Linear Algebra (4 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Spring of odd years<br />

Pre-Requisite(s): MT 210 or higher, or permission of instructor<br />

This course covers systems of linear equations, matrices,<br />

determinants, vector spaces, linear transformations,<br />

eigenvalues and eigenvectors.<br />

MT 324 Modern Abstract Algebra (4 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Fall of odd years<br />

Pre-Requisite(s): MT 211 and junior standing, or permission<br />

This course introduces the concepts for abstract algebra:<br />

equivalence relations, isomorphism, group theory, modulo,<br />

integer and number theory, rings, integral domains and<br />

field. There is an emphasis on proofs.<br />

MT 401 Senior Research (2 SH)<br />

Senior capstone course, researching an area of mathematics<br />

of their interest. May begin research spring of junior year.<br />

MUSIC (MU)<br />

Note: Applied music credit towards graduation is limited<br />

to nine (9) hours. Students may continue to take applied<br />

music, but credits in excess of nine will not be counted in<br />

the 128 hours needed for graduation.<br />

texture, rhythm, melody and harmony in musical styles<br />

from Gregorian Chant to the present.<br />
