Students are also expected to demonstrate an intermediate<br />

level of riding proficiency showing a secure seat, following<br />

hand and steady, clear aids. A 150-hour teaching internship<br />

under the supervision of a Professional Association of<br />

Therapeutic Horsemanship International, (P.A.T.H. International)<br />

certified therapeutic riding instructor is required.<br />

The coursework provides the following:<br />

1. An understanding of the scope of the therapeutic riding<br />

industry.<br />

2. An understanding of the physiological principles<br />

involved in riding for people with disabilities.<br />

3. An insight into animal behavior and man’s ability to<br />

humanely partner with horses to positively impact the<br />

quality of life for individuals as well as community.<br />

4. The ability to apply knowledge gained to solve problems<br />

and to integrate solutions to attain successful therapeutic<br />

goals.<br />

16 semester credits including:<br />

• EQR 102 or EQR 113 or Higher (1 SH) *Note: must<br />

achieve a grade of B or better<br />

• EQ 220 Introduction to Teaching Riding (2 SH)<br />

• EQ 208 Principles of Therapeutic Horsemanship (3 SH)<br />

• EDE 304 Child Development and Learning (3 SH)<br />

• EQ 250/350 Internship in Equine Studies (2-5 SH) *Note:<br />

minimum of 150 contact hours (2 SH) with at least 25<br />

teaching hours under the supervision of a pre-approved<br />

PATH certified instructor<br />

The finance major is designed for students seeking a deeper<br />

understanding of the financial environment under which<br />

businesses operate. It will provide greater insight into<br />

the working of the financial system, different investment<br />

vehicles available to both individual and institutional<br />

investors, portfolio management and risk management<br />

in a global economy. Students completing this program<br />

should have a better understanding of the financial theory<br />

and practice so as to apply the knowledge successfully to<br />

solve a wide range of business and personal problems.<br />

The program builds on the foundation of the core business<br />

administration major with a focus on financial management<br />

of corporations and money management.<br />
