IT 210 Italian Food & Culture (4 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Fall<br />

Italian cuisine is one of the most celebrated in the world.<br />

The course is intended as a critical perspective about Italy<br />

and its relation to food as an aspect of Italian lifestyle.<br />

Unique local and regional traditions of the Italian gastronomy<br />

culture will be studied in an effort to understand<br />

the rich diversity of Italy, its culinary arts, and the link<br />

between culinary history and the history and the history<br />

of economics and production. As globalization proceeds<br />

at a quick pace in the 21st century, it becomes even more<br />

essential to learn and understand how the Italian culinary<br />

model and products stretch beyond the country’s political<br />

borders.<br />

IT 211 Introduction to Italian Culture & Civilization (4 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Spring<br />

A survey of major literary, intellectual, artistic movements<br />

and cultural traditions in Italy throughout time, with an<br />

emphasis on learning to navigate intercultural differences<br />

through an understanding of Italian art, music, literature,<br />

film and major personalities in Italian history.<br />

IT 220 Italian Conversation (4 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Spring<br />

This course continues to build oral and written communication<br />

skills. Conversational exercises such as role-playing are<br />

emphasized, as well as continued interactive work with<br />

videos, film and readings.<br />

IT 250/350/450 Internship in Italian (1-4 SH)<br />

The department assists students in arranging internship<br />

opportunities with multinational companies both in the<br />

U.S. and abroad. Students may take internships during<br />

the semester as well as during the summer. Students are<br />

required to complete 75 hours of work for each credit hour<br />

registered and earned. An Internship Application must be<br />

completed and filed with the Office of Career Services and<br />

Internships.<br />

IT 300 Italian Translation (2 or 4 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Fall even 4th year<br />

Pre-Requisite(s): IT 201 or permission of instructor<br />

This course focuses on the assessment and translation of<br />

a variety of texts, including newspaper articles on current<br />

issues and literary works.<br />

IT 301 Italian for the Professional Environment (4 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Spring odd 4th year<br />

This course serves as an introduction to the professional<br />

culture of Italophone countries and societies. Students will<br />

prepare for a successful professional experience abroad<br />

or in a multinational organization in the U.S. Topics and<br />

learning outcomes will include: creating a resume or curriculum<br />

vita in the second language, proficiency in basic<br />

professional correspondence, familiarity with different<br />

types of enterprises, organizational structures, marketing,<br />

banking and finance, accounting, the employment market,<br />

insurance, daily activities in an office, economics, transportation,<br />

information technology applications, etiquette in a<br />

variety of professional situations, shipping and customs,<br />

etc. Interactive work with visual media and IT applications<br />

is emphasized and the course will be taught primarily in<br />

the target language.<br />

IT 331 Advanced Italian (4 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Fall odd 4th year<br />

Advanced grammar, phonology, morphology and syntax.<br />

Development of oral and written skills. Composition and<br />

reading of articles and of modern authors are emphasized,<br />

as well as continued interactive work with videos and films.<br />

IT 338 Readings in Italian Literatures & Cultures I (4 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Spring odd 4th year<br />

An introduction to a variety of texts of the Italian literature<br />

and their discussion in Italian. Interactive oral and written<br />

exercises to build student fluency are emphasized, as well<br />

as continued interactive work with culture production (film,<br />

historiography, intellectual movements, etc…).<br />

IT 339 Readings in Italian Literatures & Cultures II (4 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Fall even 4th year<br />

An introduction to a variety of texts and their discussion in<br />

the Italian, Italian American, Italian Canadian, Swiss Italian,<br />

etc… literatures and their discussion in class. Interactive<br />

oral and written exercises to build student fluency are<br />

emphasized, as well as continued interactive work with<br />

culture production (film, historiography, intellectual movements,<br />

etc…).<br />

IT 411 Introduction to Dante’s Divine Comedy (4 SH)<br />

Semester Offered: Spring odd 4th year<br />

The reading and understanding of Dante’s Divine Comedy<br />

with selected multidisciplinary critical works and films.<br />
