3.8. QSAR StudiesPart-IResults and DiscussionIn order to deduce the correlation between physicochemical parameters and biologicalactivity of present series of molecules, multiple regression analysis was used to generatedifferent 2D-QSAR models (equations) by calculating various descriptors availablewithin the software used for these molecules and correlating them with the observedbiological activity. Such equations help in giving the insight in the optimalphysiochemical properties required by molecules for lead activity, and also in predictingtheir mechanism of action, sometimes.Methodology and ProtocolsChemical dataSoftwaresAll QSAR studies were carried out using the QSAR plus module of Molecular DesigningSuite (MDS) of Vlife Sciences (Pune, India), running on Microsoft windows. Structuresof the molecules were constructed in ChemDraw® Ultra, version 8.0, (CambridgeSoftCorporation).MoleculesIn the present study a set of 33 molecules belonging to pyrimidylmethylsulfinylbenzimidazole class of compounds synthesized by us and which exhibited antiulceractivity was used. These molecules were divided into two groups based on the type ofbenzimidazole used. Series A: 5-H benzimidazole derivatives (17 compounds) and SeriesB: 5-methoxybenzimidazole derivatives (16 molecules). All these molecules wereconstructed in ChemDraw® Ultra, version 8.0, and imported in MDS directly.These molecular structures were subsequently minimized using MMFF force field usingrms gradient 0.001 and other parameters as default values.
