Part-IIImpact of Microwave…NHCHONO 2 N 3Zn/HCOONH 4MWI, 300WZn/HCOONH 4MWI, 300W4A microwave-enhanced variation of the Kindler thioamide synthesis has been introducedby taking advantage of the sealed vessel capabilities of a dedicated single-modemicrowave reactor. A diverse selection of 13 aldehyde and 12 amine precursors wasutilized in the construction of a representative 34-member library of substitutedthioamides 5. The three-component condensations were carried out by employingmicrowave flash heating at 110-180°C for 2-20 min. A simple workup protocol allows theisolation of synthetically valuable primary, secondary and tertiary thioamide buildingblocks in 83% average yield and >90% purity. 13R 1OH+SR 2MWI, 110-180 o C2-20 minHN+ S 8 R 1R 3 5R 2NR 3R 1 = Ph, 4-NO 2 Ph, CH 2 Ph, 3-NO 2 Ph etcR 2 =R 3 = H, H, -(CH 2 ) 5 -, -(CH 2 ) 4 -, H, PhCH 2 ,H, Propyl etcZhang et al., 14 have demonstrated the utility of microwave- assisted, boron trichloride(BCl 3 )-mediated coupling of phenols with aryl isocyanates to make salicylamide-basedexploratory library 6 of a total 16 compounds. The effect of diverse substitution groups,especially neutral and electron-withdrawing groups on the coupling reactions, has beenanalyzed.OHNCOOHOR 2+R 1 R 2 BCl 3DCMMWI, 140 o C, 10 minNHR 1 6R 1 = H, 2-allyl, 3-MeO, 4-Cl, 4-CO 2 Me;R 2 = 4-Me, 4-MeO, 4-NO 2 ,Mayer et al., 15 have produced an array of alkyl- and aryl based biguanide compounds 7using microwave irradiation and using trimethylsilyl chloride (TMSCl) for the first time278
