(4) Leave for Bone Marrow or Organ Donation. Federal employees are entitled to use seven(7) days <strong>of</strong> paid leave each calendar year (in addition to annual or sick leave) to serve as abone-marrow donor and thirty (30) days each calendar year to serve as an organ donor.(5) Termination <strong>of</strong> a medical emergency occurs when the recipient’s employment isterminated; the employee notifies the agency that the medical emergency is over; or whenOPM approves the employee’s disability retirement.(6) Military family leave.Section 11. Military Leavea. Military caregiver leave permits eligible employees who are family members <strong>of</strong>covered service members up to 26 workweeks <strong>of</strong> leave in a “single 12-monthperiod” to care for a covered service member with a serious illness or injuryincurred in the line <strong>of</strong> duty on active duty. Documentation to support leave forthis reason is submitted using the form in appendix L.b. Qualifying exigency leave makes the normal 12 workweeks <strong>of</strong> FMLA jobprotectedleave available to eligible employees with a covered military memberserving in the National Guard or Reserves to use for “any qualifying exigency”arising out <strong>of</strong> the fact that a covered military member is on active duty or called toactive duty status in support <strong>of</strong> a contingency operation. Qualifying exigencycategories for which employees can use FMLA leave are documented using theform in appendix M and are as follows:i. Short-notice deployment;ii. Military events and related activities;iii. Childcare and school activities;iv. Financial and legal arrangements;v. Counseling;vi. Rest and recuperation;vii. Post-deployment activities; andviii. Additional activities not encompassed in the other categories, but agreedto by Management and employee.A. Reserve members <strong>of</strong> the Armed Forces or members <strong>of</strong> the National Guard are entitled to leavewithout loss <strong>of</strong> pay, time, performance or efficiency rating for active duty or engaging in field or106
