Article 29Law EnforcementSection 1. GeneralAll articles <strong>of</strong> this <strong>contract</strong> apply to Law Enforcement Services employees except those articles thatpertain exclusively to Education personnel. The parties agree that Community Policing philosophy willbe implemented. The mission <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Bureau</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Indian</strong> Affairs, Office <strong>of</strong> Law Enforcement Services, is toprovide quality law enforcement services to <strong>Indian</strong> Country by promoting a safe environment throughpolice and community interaction which identifies and resolves community problems and employsinnovative, pro-active problem solving strategies based upon community policing philosophy.Section 2. PurposeLaw Enforcement employees at all levels have the responsibility to reduce crime in <strong>Indian</strong> Countrythrough community policing activities such as:A. Participate in alcohol and drug abuse prevention and crime prevention activities;B. Organize individual communities to develop strategies to combat domestic violence;C. Public relations program to generate community involvement with community law enforcementefforts; andD. Utilize media to enhance the mission <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Bureau</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Indian</strong> Affairs through authorized publicannouncements.Section 3. Code <strong>of</strong> ConductLaw Enforcement employees at all levels will continually strive to adhere to applicable codes <strong>of</strong>conduct.Section 4. Uniforms, Weapons and Safety EquipmentManagement will provide required uniforms, weapons, and safety equipment, as appropriate, for LawEnforcement employees. Union pins may be worn on the uniform.Section 5. Court AppearancesOff duty Police Officers required to appear before a court <strong>of</strong> law in connection with <strong>of</strong>ficial duties shallbe compensated in accordance with applicable laws, rules and regulations.97
