6Living with Risk: A global review of disaster reduction initiativesmanagement in a context of good local governance.UN-HABITAT is an active partner ofISDR, especially in the areas of land and urbanmanagement, impact assessment and capacitybuilding.Processes such as the GlobalCampaigns on Urban Governance and forSecure Tenure constitute important opportunitiesto promote disaster reduction in urbanareas and strengthen collaboration with localauthorities.RDMP under DPCSS is a programme establishedto strengthen UN-HABITAT capacityto deliver technical cooperation and capacitybuildingservices with a focus on direct countrysupport, with the objective of helpingvulnerable communities and human settlementsto reduce vulnerability and bettermanage the effects of disasters and conflict.RDMP provides support to national governments,local authorities and communities inclose cooperation with UN-HABITAT technicalcooperation units and other specializedprogrammes. As part of its normative functions,RDMP develops and disseminatesmanagement tools and capacity-building activities.Its operational activities deliver directsupport to national and local partners through:• Technical advisory missions upon requestby Governments and external supportagencies;• Execution of assessments in disasterprone/hitand post-conflict countries;• Identification, design, technical backstoppingand follow-up of operational projectsin response to countries' demands;• Participation in donor consultations andnegotiations for the provision of externalsupport to affected countries;• Assessment of global and regionaldemands for support on disasters andhuman settlements management and thedesign and implementation ofglobal/regional projects and methodologicalapproaches through collaboration withcountries and other external support agencies.UN-HABITATP.O.
