It is critical to get at these issues up front,because they are true impediments to successfully implement<strong>in</strong>g the bus<strong>in</strong>ess plan. Rais<strong>in</strong>g these issuesis ak<strong>in</strong> to pick<strong>in</strong>g your head out of the sand, tak<strong>in</strong>g a hard look at the monsters <strong>in</strong> your midst,determ<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g the appropriate responses to elim<strong>in</strong>ate them, and <strong>in</strong>corporat<strong>in</strong>g those response actions <strong>in</strong>toyour bus<strong>in</strong>ess plan.Figure 3.1 illustrates the n<strong>in</strong>e key areas where issues reside. Once the specific issues <strong>in</strong> each categoryare identified, approaches <strong>for</strong> their elim<strong>in</strong>ation (issue-resolution strategies and actions) are developedand <strong>in</strong>cluded <strong>in</strong> the tactical (near-term) portion of your bus<strong>in</strong>ess plan.In larger companies, senior management typically raises the issues, but <strong>in</strong> smaller or start-upcompanies, the owner raises them.
