This figure is analogous to the earlier Figure 8–6, which presented thisgraph for the subset of children who experienced Harm Standard maltreatment. Detailsconcerning the hierarchical strategy for assigning recognition sources can be found inChapter 7 (§7.1.1).The majority of the children who experience Endangerment Standardmaltreatment that comes to the attention of juvenile probation (63%) or law enforcement(64%) staff receive CPS investigation for their maltreatment. The rate of CPSinvestigation for children recognized by public health departments is much lower (33%).This pattern is very similar to the Harm Standard findings (cf. Figure 8–6). Takentogether, 61% of all the maltreated children investigatory agency staff recognizedreceived CPS investigation.By contrast, children whose maltreatment was recognized by sentinels innon-investigatory agencies had much lower CPS investigation rates. Considering allchildren recognized by sentinels in non-investigatory agencies, only one-fourth (25%)had their maltreatment investigated by CPS. However, the investigation rates in the noninvestigatoryagencies have a relatively wide range, from 12% to 94%; this also mirrorsthe Harm Standard findings described above.8–19
